Concert for Diana : Elton John

Elton John

Always entertaining, but wish he sang Goodbye England's Rose. I love that song.

God Bless Diana

Re: Elton John

I was quite surprised too, I know he probably wouldnt want the song to be over played, but considering the scale and importance of the event I think it would of been a fitting tribute.

It was a great show anyway.

Re: Elton John

what was the song he sang before will and harry came onstage and introduced duran duran i think. it was just him and the piano and there were images of diana flashing on the screen behind him.

Re: Elton John

Although he released on a single right after her funeral, he has only performed it one time in public and that was at the funeral. He had vowed to never peform it live again. Although some had rumored that he would do so if Prince William or Harry asked him to,that was just a rumor. He will not perform it live ever again.

My understanding is that they did ask him, but he honored his vow and did not perform it.

Re: Elton John

ok but what is the song called.

Re: Elton John

The song is titled "Are You Ready for Love" from the Thom Bell Sessions in Philadelphia.

Thom Bell is a famous R&B soul writer and arranger who produced many of the big soul hits from such as The Detroit Spinners and New York City.

I was a little disappointed with Elton's second set except for this last number he seemed to be shouting rather than singing?

Re: Elton John

He was supposed to play 2 other songs but they cut him short due to the gig over running (other artists who cut their sets where Will Young's "Leave Right Now", Natasha Bedingfield, and Take That's "Never Forget").

I know Elton was supposed to play "Crocodile Rock" as his finale, but anyone know what he was supposed to play between that and "Are You Ready For Love"?

Also, while "Are You Ready For Love" was a number 1 single in the UK, it has always struck me as one of his more underappreciated songs as it never featured on any of his albums. Was it ever a hit/well known anywhere else?

I have a feeling that he played that and "Tiny Dancer" (probably THE BEST EVER Elton John song) for the real fans, and was gonna follow it with a couple of crowd pleasers.

"I think you're a load of old crap too, Mr Mulligan."

Re: Elton John

I can understand his vow to never perform the song again but COME ON, this was a final tribute to Diana. If any place or time would have been fitting for him to perform that song once more, this would have been it. Because he was a friend of hers, I'd have really thought he'd want to honor her by saving the song for last, at the tribute arranged for her by her two sons.

I'm glad I got to see him perform 'Tiny Dancer' live, though. That's one of my favorite songs ever.

I am not revealing my name to protect the innocent.

The song that Elton John vowed he would never play again because it saddens him to play it is Candle in the Wind Princess Diana version,Candle in the Wind 97 version, the first version of candle in the wind that I hear on the radio was about Marilyn Monroe who also died at the age of 36 just like Diana did, I made a tribute page in myspace for Princess Diana and that is one of the songs on the play list candle in the wind 97 version, that is my favorite candle in the wind version, the original one does not compare to the diana version.

Re: Elton John

Totally shit song. It's just his previous song about Marilyn Monroe with different lyrics about Princess Diana. He could have at least had the decency to write a new song for Princess Diana.

Yes, this is really me.
