Re: A Yank !!!

I really think he needed a dialect coach. It was so obvious from the minute he opened his mouth he wasn't from rural Amaerica. That blew it for me. Real shame, because he's a fine actor, but sadly, here he is miscast. The film also was slow and not very believable. Too bad, because the idea had potential.

Dialect

I have to agree.....I could tell that he was not American even though he did his best to speak in an American accent. I did not know too much about him before this movie and I was not sure if he was Scottish, Irish or British.

By and large he sounded American.....but I have listened to so many South Africans, Brits or Australians trying to sound like an American that I can now sort of spot them.

In one scene it almost sounded like he was trying to sound like a Southerner....but only in one brief scene.

THe Scots and Irish are British. Jamie is infact English with a very Mancurian accent.

You Brits will work for peanuts.

"Come back with my Oreos you hairy ass"

Re: A Yank !!!

A stalker eh?

And British at that!

And you have to admit, the "working for peanuts" part IS true.

No, they only accept organic cashew nuts

Re: A Yank !!!

I was wrong about the peanuts.

I think YOU actually pay Hollywood to cast you all.

Can only explain why The Bionic Woman and Sarah Connor got snagged by Limeys.

Re: A Yank !!!

Your own actors have priced themselves out of the market ?? like our own situation in the UK (or little Poland), bosses have found foreign workers who are on time ,work hard , and don't whine. Could that translate to Brits/Aussies being taken on in Hollywood ?

Re: A Yank !!!

Actually I think it's because American actors have become so good at their trade that unless the TV show is sterling, they simply can't be bothered. :-)

Hollywood has always been global. Americans aren't afraid of Brits, Aussies, Canadians, etc. playing Yanks in movies (even if their "American" accents are a bit dodgy).

Unlike a certain little island across the pond that completely freaks when a Yank even so much as dreams of playing, say, a Mancunian.

And what do you have against the Poles. We've got quite a few where I'm from. A little arrogant at times (but hey, they're Euros, what do you expect), but in general nice people.

And since when do Brits eat Oreos? I thought American culture was frowned upon over there.

Re: A Yank !!!

Oreos ?? From " Any Which Way You Can" - Ma Beddoe. ps i ain't got nothing against the Poles. I work with a couple of 'em.

Re: A Yank !!!

if you two want to chat there a places for that, and... um, i ate your Oreos, sorrry...

Re: A Yank !!!

He really shouldn't have tried to play an American. There was a couple of times in this film where he sounded absolutely stupid. He did a fair job throughout most of the film, but in a couple of places his accent went all weird.

Oh well, Draven should do fine as long as he stays on his home turf. I've seen the british playing an American thing done before and it usually goes pretty bad, and this was no exception.

Re: A Yank !!!

me - here in australia - i didn't pick it, sounded yanky to me, also he reminded me of russel crowe.

Anti-Americanism is a mental disorder.
