It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia : the gang tries to win an award

the gang tries to win an award

Can someone please explain to a non-American what the award plot is about? I get that the show hasn't won any awards but there's so much going on in this episode that seems referential to me, so I assume I'm missing the joke.
Like black bars not winning awards, a new bar down the street winning awards, and was the burlesque bar a reference to a different show?

Re: the gang tries to win an award

I think the new bar was referring to Louie, and the burlesque bar was referring to Mad MenI could be wrong

Re: the gang tries to win an award

Watch an episode of big bang theory or friends or something similar, then rewatch the gang tries to win an award. Should become pretty clear.

Thanks guys. Although I hardly think it was necessary to threaten me with TBBT!

Re: the gang tries to win an award

I thought that was a low-blow, too.

Re: the gang tries to win an award

I think black bars not winning awards is a reference to The Wire
