There Will Be Blood : Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
WHAAAAATTTTT!????!!?!
Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
I think basically what it all comes down to at the end of the day is that he gave a great performance. That's why people say it.
Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
You dropped a basically, a what it all comes down to, and an at the end of the day, all in one sentence?
Nice work...
All snark aside, it was a great performance, as always...
Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

A guy named Mike hunt is obviously a tasteful fellow, and has an opinion worth listening to.

It must be fun to be wildly ignorant and talk out of your ass about things you don't understand. I'll have to try that some day...

Masterful performance . Maybe you should go back to watching con air !! DDL was brilliant and an oscar well deserved .
Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
"Over the top" isn't necessarily negative. I would say a considerable amount of great and truly memorable performances are over the top to certain degree. It is largely a matter of taste but I certainly prefer a somewhat elevated style as long as it's well done and DDL does it well.
Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
Cuz it was a performance... and it was great.
Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
Daniel Day Lewis's performance as Bill the Butcher is the most insanely ridiculous thing Daniel Day Lewis ever did.

I didn't realize that people who smoked crack owned a computer. His performance is excellent.

Over the top? What movie were you watching?
One of the most nuanced performances of the 21st century.

Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
It's how he delivers his lines.
Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
Cage is one of the most mediocre actors running in Hollywood and you have the audacity to compare him to DDL??
Lewis has never made a bad film; he is EXTREMELY selective.
The performance was not over the top at all; rather, it was one of the best transitional performances ever. The way that Lewis played it out as his character was becoming fueled with greed more and more as he became richer was extraordinary. If you don't understand that by watching the film, you will never understand by someone on a forum explaining it to you.

Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
It was awful, as you correctly point out.
I'm surprised that he didn't manage to actually twirl his mustache, which is something that the fans of this film would have praised.
At least he provided some actual entertainment with his silliness in Gangs of New York, a performance that he basically just made a variation on for There Will Be Blood.
But the PTA fantards gravitate towards over-the-top, both for their preferred directing styles as well as their acting.
Anything that calls attention to itself is what they most revere. They are comprised of film students who worship filmmaking as an end in itself, rather than simply as a means to tell meaningful stories.
Casey Affleck just gave a performance in Manchester By The Sea that puts Day-Lewis's cartoonish spectacle to shame. Yet how much do you want to make a bet that they won't even recognize it, let alone understand why its so much better than the histrionics on display in this overrated dud?

Re: Why does everyone say Daniel Day-Lewis gave such a great perforance?
Different parts require difference amounts of subtlety. What makes Lee Chandler a great character is how realistic he is. Daniel Plainview is a great character because he's a Shakespearean villain. Shakespearean villains shouldn't be subtle.
