There Will Be Blood : Would you say this movie is boring?

Would you say this movie is boring?

Don't get me wrong, I like it.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

No, no I wouldn't. But I'm guessing you would.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

You'd guess wrong. I love this movie! But I've heard others hate it's slow pace.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

No. It's slow-paced, but never boring.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Exactly how I would describe the film. One of my favorites.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Yes, this was really hard to get through. Especially since literally nothing happens the last hour.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

I agree. In fact I was very surprised with this film given the cast. But I kept waiting for the story to go somewhere and it never did. The oilman was a sociopath who only cared about himself and his business. There was a little affection toward his son at first but not much.
That much was established early on, along with his success in business. Then the film just went nowhere. The story went nowhere.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Yeah, this. At the end I asked the question "AND?" like a bad joke where the punch line is so dull you think the joke isn't over yet.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

No. Though I'll admit I did when I saw it the first time over a year ago.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

All of you are slow moving and boring. The movies pace is fine. You know what's boring? Star Wars!

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

I just watched it for the first time and found it pretty boring to be honest. Daniel Day-Lewis did a great job as always but I just couldn't get into this movie and didn't really like any of the characters.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Agreed. Nothing much really happens after the basic plot is established. That surprised me; I kept waiting for the story to go somewhere but it never did. Daniel Day Lewis was a sociopath who was ruthless in business and made a lot of money. He had a son he never was close to. That was the whole movie plot and it was established early on.

The only real development in the latter half of the movie was that he felt lonely and unfulfilled toward the end.
They could have done much more with this film.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Some people just wanna be raped by explosions.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

*rolls eyes* just because someone doesn't love a movie or finds it dull doesn't mean all they like are explosions or transformers or whatever else you might like to think

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

I'm watching it now for the first time and it is slow-paced, but then the few times I check see how much longer is left (as planning to have marathon of stuff!) it is closer to the ending that I thought. So even though I can tell it is slow paced, it goes by faster than expected. So not sure what that means for me? Haha.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Slow pacing =/= boring.

There's your answer.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Hell no.

Part of the film's hypnotic charm is how it uses the stillness of scenes to draw you in.

"[Redmayne] is so thirsty for awards and not in a fun way but in a sad, desperate way" - Twitter

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

"Hypnotic Charm"

Bingo

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Not boring at all . My cousin thought it was boring and slow but he goes to the movies to see fast and furious films and super hero crap. 10/10.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

I would have when I first saw it back in 2007. But I just rewatched it for the first time since then and found it much more captivating this time around.

Same thing happened with No Country For Old Men. I just didn't "get" either of them the first time around.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

I don't really try to argue with people on this film, I love it, but at the same time can totally see how someone would watch it and if it isn't clicking it could be incredibly boring/annoying/WTF kind of thing.

Not trying to say I'm "smart" and they're "dumb" because they don't click with this film, it's one of those films that is not for everyone.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Well, I'm 1 hour and 50 minutes in and the past 30 minutes were a drag. The first hour or so had IMO perfect pacing but ever since Daniel's brother showed up, the movie's gotten a bit drawn.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Yes, if your missing chromosomes and can't find the one hitter it's annoying and boring.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

I never found it boring. I just went to a screening in Chicago of it, and when the time jump to 1928 happened I was kind of shocked. The movie totally captivates me.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

One of those movies I personally have to be ready for it. Mood has to be perfect, stars have to align etc...but a great movie. I recommended to everyone.

Same thing with No Country for Old Men. I believe I saw them on same day yet it took me six to seven years to see both of these movies for the 2nd time.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

This movie has every right to be boring; but for some reason, it's isn't.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

It was Kubrickian i.e. beautiful to look at but glacially paced and the whole movie felt like it was building to something that never happened. I suppose you could look at it as portrait of an amoral psychopath, although Lewis did that better in Gangs of New York.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

The only way I've managed to find this movie even remotely boring is after multiple viewings. Everytime I watch this (and I pay closer and closer attention each time) I spot something I hadn't seen before that serves to not only maintain my attention but reel me deeper and deeper into the universe of this story. Day-Lewis has created this character that is impenetrable in the sense that I can't see or think Day-Lewis, all I see is Plainview. And while some have called the ending abrupt and anti-climactic, I have to disagree. The whole exchange between Daniel & Eli was drawn out (in a good way) which was concluded with a bang (three to be precise). Daniel's last words couldn't have been more appropriate.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

This film requires multiple viewings. I wasnt all that impressed with it the first time i watched. I went back a year later and it blew me away, the best film of the past decade IMO

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

No. I sat through the 2,5 hours without going to the toilet or getting up to get a drink or whatever. That's something that very rarely happens. That's not to say that it doesn't drag a bit towards the end. Still, an admirable achievement for such a long film.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

I just finished this, and the movie had me glued to the screen the whole time. Wasn't bored for one second.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

no

I am an *beep* but my friends compensate for that.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

I didn't find it boring, but I found it sort of pointless.

If it was a biopic of Daniel Plainview, why did we have scenes that didn't include him? We don't even see what might have been the biggest event: trial for the murder of Eli Blank. Or else his death from booze or suicide.

At first I thought (because of the filming of the mountains with the ominous music) it was about this guy who mines for silver in the Superstition Mountains and goes crazy. But then it wasn't silver anymore; it was oil. Then I thought it was about this guy who might be a famous wildcatter. Then I thought it was about this man and his son. Then I thought it was about his pipeline. Then I thought it was this false brother. Finally I accepted that, in the words of Homer Simpson, it was "just a bunch of stuff that happens."

I liked the movie, the acting was great, the scenes were interesting, but I always felt I was missing the point. Until I realized there was no point.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

There isn't much of a plot, but it's one of the most fascinating and interesting movies ever made. The dialogue and acting alone carry the movie. The first time I watched it, those three hours went by like nothing. It's the reason why this is my favorite movie of all time.

Wendy? Darling? Light, of my life!

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Not at all.

"You're not a standup guy today, Pat!"

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

It's one of those kind of movies...you'll either love it or hate it. Definitely not for everyone.

Re: Would you say this movie is boring?

Reporting in for the hate team. Holy *beep* it was boring. The roles were already established early on and then you had to snooze to the inevitable ending.

5/10 Nothing wrong with the acting, a lot of things wrong with the script / pacing.

"You'll be taking a soul train straight to a disco inferno where you never can say goodbye!"
