Duirng the final scene, Plainview tells Eli how he wasn't the chosen brother, Paul was. Then he insults him some more about who's teat did he suck while Paul was being breastfed.

That wouldn't make much sense, since ELI mentions PAUL when he's attacking his father.

i'm rewatching this movie and Eli and Paul sort of confused me too..i'm not finished in watching the movie yet but are their scenes with the 'twins' in the same room to confirm that both exist?
So far I know Paul was the one who went to seek out in selling the land the family farm was on..didn't seem his brother had a clue about it when bringing Daniel and HW firewood.

If the theory about them being the same person is true, then he was faking not knowing.

That's what I initially thought. I thought it was a big scam where Eli had pretended to be a twin brother (Paul) to cash in once and lure Daniel out to the ranch, and then presented himself as Eli to cash in again. But as someone mentioned, Paul was mentioned in the family (when Daniel wasn't present) so he must have been real.
Then at the end, I wondered if it wasn't Paul pretending to be Eli to try to get some money from Daniel. Because his entrance when he talks about their long friendship -- which seemed absurd because Eli must have known Daniel hated him. But when Daniel talked about how successful Paul was, it was clear from Eli's reaction that it was Eli.
And did anyone else think Daniel just made that stuff about Paul up, at the end? I doubt Daniel kept in touch with Paul and knew what he was doing. Daniel was not one for maintaining friendships through the years.
