Is Disney not doing 2D animated films anymore a result of laziness?

What do you guys think?

Re: Is Disney not doing 2D animated films anymore a result of laziness?

Disney only did Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh as pawns against 2D animation. They wanted those films to flop and they only claimed they wanted to revive 2D animation to shut us up about our precious art form. John Lasseter is a two faced crook.

It's not laziness, it's money. Disney, like every other major animation studio in America, has mistakenly associated success with CG animation. When John Lasseter took over he tried to implement a system where every other Disney film would be 2D. However, this plan was canned after PatF failed to live up to expectations and Winnie the Pooh outright flopped. It's quite a shame, I honestly believe Frozen would have been just as successful had it stayed 2D as originally planned.

I honestly don't get why the hell they released Winnie the Pooh the same day as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The only reason I can think of is because they wanted it to flop so they could use it as an excuse to stop doing 2D animated films.

I don't think Disney would have any reason to tank 2D films intentionally, but it was definitely a poor business decision to release a film against the final Harry Potter film. Even beyond that, it was a poor decision to think Winnie the Pooh was a profitable enough franchise in 2011 to warrant a major theater release.

who knows but you have two wonder why they made it in the first place since the movie is barely 1 hour before the end credits start and the whole movie is 63 movies long.

Well now length isn't everything. I consider 5 Centimeters Per Second one of the greatest animated films of all time and it's around the same run time.

Well maybe not to you but it is too me

Re: Is Disney not doing 2D animated films anymore a result of laziness?

Wait, so you're essentially saying the length of a film is more important than the story, characters, and artistry of a film? Sure, a film's length is important in the sense that the length should be enough to support that film's purpose but sometimes it doesn't take that long to accomplish it.

Re: Is Disney not doing 2D animated films anymore a result of laziness?

I am not sure of it being lazy, but it is a trend now that more animated movies are getting computer animated and put in 3D rather then the old traditional hand drawn 2D animation. And I am sure that Disney wants to keep up with the trend, and not look old fashioned. And in less something changes in the not foreseeable future, it looks like Disney is done doing traditional 2D hand drawn movies, as the last one that did was the Princess and the Frog.

No almost one makes-- or more importantly watches---2D animated films anymore, and that's all there is to it...

Re: Is Disney not doing 2D animated films anymore a result of laziness?

At least in the movie theaters generaly when movies are released they are on dvd in 2D, and if there is a released in 3D generally it would be blu-ray but there are times when a movie does get released on dvd in 3D which comes with cardboard glasses.

Re: Is Disney not doing 2D animated films anymore a result of laziness?

The only 2D animation from Disney nowadays is on TV.
