Animation : When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

There are over a billion people in India, and they love musical numbers. It could break records.

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

If they're smart, the answer is whenever they have a good story to warrant one. The writing must always be the driving force behind character choices, not the other way around.

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

This.

If Disney ever starts making characters simply because it will make their movie bank roll, it be a disaster.

Also, if the character sucks, it could end up being a huge bomb that would blow up in their face.

There is tons of talent on Disney's writing side, so all I can say is don't assume that one isn't already coming.

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

Sad that Princess and the Frog wasn't a financial success. Even Pocahontas isn't seen as Disney's most popular film either even though the character is sometime featured in merchandising.

Given it was in 2D, I think they expected that.

The thing is, since it proved them right, that further decreased the likelihood that they won't do another high budget 2D feature film anytime soon. To me, Princess and the Frog came at least a decade too late.

Imagine what impact it would have had in the late 90's.

Wouldn't Pochontas count?

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

Wouldn't Pochontas count?

The other kind of Indian, as in the country India. Typically we would call Pocahontas a Native American these days.

But still shouldn't she still count as a princess?

I suppose, but that's still irrelevant to the discussion at hand as we're still talking about two completely different kinds of people.

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

What about Tigerlily from "The Jungle Book"? Wasn't she an Indian Princess?

I'm waiting until there's a Jewish Disney princess.

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

The character of Tigerlily is from Peter Pan, whom once again would have been based on Native Americans. If you're referring to that girl at the end of the Jungle Book that sings that beautiful song, she's just an ordinary village girl.

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

Thanks, I get them so mixed up!

A lot of old vintage Disney characters look so much alike.

Couldn't you have said a lot of time but just answering my question, even without making up an excuse?

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

No need for that kind of reaction, there was no malice or rudeness intended in my response.

"If life is getting you down and needs uplifting, then please come dance with me!"

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

I can react anyway I want to, so please don't tell me how to react. I asked a simple question, I saw in no way n answer, so I had to ask again. No let's turn the tables, so say if you asked the question, and I answered and i did everything but to answer the question, and you had to ask again how would you feel?

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

I'm not interested in off topic arguments and, yes, I answered both of your questions. You asked if Pocohontas counted as an Indian princess and I said no. You asked again if she's at least a princess and I said maybe, but I'm not sure. There's nothing else to infer here, so let's just keep on topic okay.

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

I don't hesitate to put out the following prediction:
Since we got the recent short, Sanjay's Super Team (2015), I think we might have a Disney production featuring a Hindi princess or female lead character in development within a year or two. Keep in mind, most Disney animation productions are at least two to three years long.

So, waiting for the actual release is a relatively considerable time away.

Re: When is Disney going to have an Indian princess?

Let me know about any Indian princess stories that are not connected to Indian religion so that Hindus don't get offended.

In any case, we have the Jungle Book, which had an Indian setting.

You're barking up the wrong tree. I wouldn't know how to answer that one (in any manner or fashion).
