Hawaii Five-0 : Dr. Madison Gray, a female Wo-Fat?

Dr. Madison Gray, a female Wo-Fat?

In the original Hawaii Five-0 series an evil slippery villain named Wo-Fat
always seemed to elude McGarrett's capture and frustrated him on no end for
many of the original series twelve seasons.

I realize that there has been an updated character of Wo-Fat (a younger, better
looking version), but I'm wondering if Elizabeth Rohm's Dr. Madison Gray is
being groomed to be a female Wo-Fat who will always seem to elude Steve
McGarrett for the rest of the current Five-0 series run.

In the original series, Wo-Fat was master manipulator and always seemed to get
others to facilitate his evil schemes whether they wanted to or not, some
didn't even know they were puppets of Mr. Fat. In the past episode, Dr. Gray
somehow seemed to have connections with various other serial type killers and
knew just how to manipulate them for her own sick ends. I see similarities
here between Dr. Gray and Wo-Fat. Whenever a seemingly incredible crime
scheme would materialize in Hawaii, the original McGarrett (Jack Lord) would
say "I see a fine hand in this, and I know that it is Wo-Fat."

Of course, having a recurring villain to frustrate the lead character or
"series hero" is nothing new. Jim West (The Wild Wild West) had Dr. Miguelito
Loveless, who even appeared in one of the made-for-television movie sequels.
(Remember the "$600.00 people" he invented played by then married mimes Shields
and Yarnell?)

And there was the character of Nicole Wallace who constantly frustrated poor
Goren on "Law and Order: Criminal Intent." Nicole (actress Olivia D'Abo)
was the only character on this show that could "put a dent in Goren's armor.
(I met Mr. D'Onofrio once and he told me that the character of Nicole had been
killed (not by Goren or Eames) and was definitely dead. Mr. D'Onofrio told me
that he enjoyed working with Olivia and had known her since she was 16 years
old.)

Re: Dr. Madison Gray, a female Wo-Fat?

I miss the Wo-fat the current series had until Doris showed up. She even managed to downgrade his great performances.

Re: Dr. Madison Gray, a female Wo-Fat?

She knew how to control them because she was a shrink but i don't find her as ruthless as Wo-Fat. Wo-Fat was a kind of terminator, so many times he should have a died but survived.

Dr.Gray is simply a cheap knock-off of Hannibal Lecter, i don't find her that interesting but that might be because her story was so rushed.

I hope she ain't the big bad of the season because that was a weak entry.

Re: Dr. Madison Gray, a female Wo-Fat?

The character of Gray was dull as dishwater. She had virtually no personality, other than that which was "profiled" by Brown. She definitely did not come across as some kind of mastermind.

Re: Dr. Madison Gray, a female Wo-Fat?

She can't compare to Wo-Fat. He was the ultimate bad guy.

Re: Dr. Madison Gray, a female Wo-Fat?

After they wrapped up the story line with the modern Wo Fat, Gabriel Waincroft took over that role for a couple seasons. He was scary and intimidating. They could have kept him around longer. (Maybe the actor wanted to focus on other projects, so he might have been unavailable?)

Madison Gray doesn't seem that menacing, even though she did stab McGarrett and the profiler. After the stabbings, she didn't do that much on her own. She hit McGarrett with the wooden meat tenderizer but then she left the dirty work to the other two criminals. Her slow-motion walk away from the explosion (Steve's truck) was cliched. I wish they wouldn't have done that. That scene has been done to death.

Re: Dr. Madison Gray, a female Wo-Fat?

I find Dr Gray very interesting as an elusive villain. It will definitely bear watching how they will corner and capture her. She seems pretty smart( despite a 'blunder' by her) and tough to track. The comparison with Wo Fat is not quite accurate. Wo Fat, though a brilliant and ruthless criminal, did get captured at least once, and badly beaten at least one other time.

Dr Gray has been unscathed so far, in fact not even close to being attacked or captured. That alone makes her more intriguing and mysterious than Wo Fat( and no slur on Wo Fat :-))

Re: Dr. Madison Gray, a female Wo-Fat?

I always assumed WoFats main evilness was to torment McGarrett about his connection with Doris and his trying to locate the wherabouts of his father. He thought of Doris as a mother that abandoned him for her new family. It would seem that Doris"s assignment to kill the father led her to have some sort of intimate relationship with him. He told Steve that even after everything that happened, he still loved her.Somehow the mother was killed by mistake and the guilt haunted her for many years. It was why she tried to rescue him and why she wouldn't leave him behind. The minute she knew that Wo Fat was trying to kill her son Steve, she should have told him the whole truth. She is a terrible mother. She abandoned her husband, son and 5 year old daughter. At least Steve had some structure in his life with the military. Mary seemed to have never recovered from her mothers death.
