Soaps and Serials : How did Agnes Nixon come up with the title 'All My Children?'

How did Agnes Nixon come up with the title 'All My Children?'

All My Children has been on the air for 38 years now and the show will continue to thrive with stories of love, passion, betrayal, loss, and triumph that surround the daily lives of many residents of Pine Valley, Pennsylvania.

We want to thank the woman who was responsible for making AMC an enduring legacy on daytime television for over the past 3 decades: the legendary creator of this show, Agnes Nixon.

And that brings me to ask you a very interesting question.

How did Nixon really come up with the title?

Whatever it takes, I know I can make it through.

Re: How did Agnes Nixon come up with the title 'All My Children?'

If I recall, AMC was originally built around Rosemary Prinz, who made her name on another soap, and it centered around her character and offspring.

Re: How did Agnes Nixon come up with the title 'All My Children?'

Rosemary Prinz had been Penney Hughes on As the World Turns. Agnes had worked with Irna Phillips on that serial and was very familiar with Rosemary as a soap opera star with an immense fan following. It was Rosemary's decision to leave ATWT and the character was so popular they dared not replace her. Believing the Rosemary fan base would watch her in another show, Agnes and company lured her out of retirement for the first six months of AMC by having her play one of the leads. It was understood in their agreement that Rosemary would be written out.
