Ca$h Cab : I often wonder a few things…

I often wonder a few things…

Question 1) Has the Cash Cab ever been robbed (like when stopped)?

Question 2) Have any of the winners ever been mugged?

Question 3) Has any contestant ever been in/on Cash Cab more than once?

Re: I often wonder a few things…

1. Robbing would make no sense. Since there are probably over ten cameras not hiding their identity.

2. Chances may have occurred.

3. Probably.

Re: I often wonder a few things…

They don't receive real cash on the show, they are sent a check.

Re: I often wonder a few things…

I'm sorry I did not know that

Re: I often wonder a few things…

What do you have to be sorry about?! It's more than alright!

Re: I often wonder a few things…

Ok, cool.

I told my sisters what you told me about contestants receiving a check

They thought they just get handed either Monopoly money or that fake currency that looks almost real.

I find that funny if they tried to pay for goodies with fake money.

Re: I often wonder a few things…

Ahaaha, "But Ben Bailey gave me the cash!!!"

Re: I often wonder a few things…

What I want to know is:

1) Is it designated off camera that the person in the right front seat is the official answer man?

2) Where is he getting the questions from? It doesn't appear that he is reading them or that he has an ear piece in his left ear.

3) Is there a camera car following the cab so as to film the street shout out helpers and the fares as they exit the cab?

Re: I often wonder a few things…

Yes, Bailey informs them off-camera before they begin the game. Also, it's better to one person behind the passenger seat give the official answer instead of two or three all at once with different answers.

If you look closely enough in some episodes, Bailey is wearing an ear piece in his left ear. He may look to the right and you'll see a white wire in the rear view mirror. So yes, Bailey is being fed the questions from the show producers. He improvises the rest.

The producers and cameramen are always trailing behind the cab. I don't know what kind of car they ride in though. Yes, the "Cash Cab" people film the people getting in/getting out of the taxi and the street shout outs. About the fares - whether or not the contestants win, they get a free ride from "Cash Cab".

Perry: "You, stop multiplying!"

Re: I often wonder a few things…

How come no oen is ever going a long ways away? Such as one of the 3 airports or long island or even one of the other burroughs? It seems they are always going in the 15-40 block range.

Re: I often wonder a few things…

I would assume people going to the airport are in too much of a rush to risk getting kicked out of a taxi. I've seen episodes where people are going 50-60 blocks before.

If I found out that I was in there, I'd switch my destination to L.A. and hope I don't get strike three somewhere in Ohio.

Re: I often wonder a few things…

haha.

Also, these people that get in and recognize the show

When I get in cabs, I look at the driver first. Whom is always clear, day or night. They don't notice the white van, or any cameras/wires in their face? Only when Ben says You're on Cash Cab! they notice.

And, someone said they are told they'll be going in the Cash Cab first. So why do people act so genuinely surprised when they are told it's the Cash Cab? It looks 100% real when they are screaming and high fiving.

Re: I often wonder a few things…

I am sure they are told ahead of time to look surprised. I am sure people who get in the cab that don't want to play so they probably edit the show a lot.

Here is to the person who wanted to know why don't they go further in the cab. Logistics, logistics. Have you been in NYC at any time of the day. Too many one way streets, double parking delivery trucks, you can hardly get through some of the streets. I am surprised they make 30 blocks within the 20 minutes of the show. There is a lot of editing going on to show 2 or 3 fares a show lol. Plus once you leave Manhattan you have to get back to Manhattan with a fare and not too many people take long cab trips. Also you have to go over bridges to get to the airports or off of Manhattan island, Imagine getting 3 strikes on the Triboro bridge, Grand Central or Belt, out you go. lol. I noticed he picks people up a lot near the Flatiron building and he goes way downtown to places like Greenwich or the East Village or SoHo. Or he goes to places like the Rockefeller Center area. I never see him going uptown to places like Harlem though. Oh and on Long Island, Nassau or Suffolk it is illegal to hail cabs so that would work too good there, lol. The cabs at all airports have to line up to get fares. So I am not sure how that would work out.

Re: I often wonder a few things…

I think some of the people look at the show and know but I believe most are really surprised. Some of the people do not react at all. I would love to see the Cash Cab rejects, the ones who do not want to play.

Re: I often wonder a few things…

I would assume the show is more set up than that. Standard practice in TV and movies these days is not to allow a person to "act" and drive at the same time. I would think the cab is either being towed like they do with most car shoots, or at least driving on a closed circuit. Either way the contestant would know what they are getting into ahead of time. It seems unlikely that Ben would be allowed to drive on a public street and conduct a game show inside at the same time, talk about distracted driving!

Obviously Ben gives them the rules off camera, possibly designating the right front passenger to give the final answer (although I've seen Ben take the answer from the front left passenger at least once). Sometimes Ben gives the full rules on camera and sometimes they skip over part of it.

Just like "Millionaire," the mobile shout-outs always seem to be available. Either the people on the other end are alerted ahead of time, or maybe just called at the beginning of the cab ride and put on hold for the remainder of the show. Either way it seems the mobile shout-outs are pre-selected and they have to use Ben's phone to make the calls.

I think the "surprise" of the contestants has to be a little bit performance. Like the original Iron Chef, which was 50% setup and 50% spontaneous.
