The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills : OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
I don't know, or have any real idea why they are shutting it down.
I'm so disappointed.

Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
I don't know, but once someone figures out how to make millions off of movie + television show based message boards then IMDb will be sorry that they didn't think of a better way to manage it, save it, or profit from it somehow. I hate to think the real reason is just because of trolls.
Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
The message boards don't bring in any money, it's why they have never updated them in all these years. They can't advertise on the message boards so they are letting them go, it has nothing to do with trolls. If they could figure out how to monetize the boards or were willing to spend the money to do updates that made it possible the boards would remain.
Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
But i would think it's good for them to have us posters log in everyday (I do). I won't come here anymore as I can always google a question about a movie. How could so many of us leaving the site be good? Personally I hope it bites them in the ass!
Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
I won't come to IMDB either. The only reason I logged in was for the message boards. I can just google Movie/TV info.
Back over to Previously TV I go. It's all about the community.

Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
You answered your own question - and Tierney describes in detail as well. Despite how they worded the announcement these types of decisions always come down to money.
Coincidentally, this tended to be the correct answer to a lot of rhetorical IMDB questions - for example, "why does Hollywood produce so many remakes?" They're always going to make decisions based on what they see as their best odds to make money. (That doesn't guarantee it's the correct decision, but it's always going to be the basis for the decision.)
And, even with these RH shows - they're great moneymakers for Bravo because they're so (relatively) cheap to produce.

Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
Politics.
This is a movie site but the Politics board is by far the most active and likely gets the most scrutiny. I am relatively new to that board but what I've found is it is a lively spot with a lot of opinions thrown around that might not reflect the opinions of the liberal owner of IMDB/Amazon. It might sound kooky and far-fetched but look around. Everywhere you look now one side is going out of its way to quell dissent/ debate. It's the side that blames non mainstream Internet sources for the outcome of the presidential election. Just keep paying attention, this effort will become clearer and clearer to you as time passes. You are right to question the validity of the explanation given because it doesn't make sense and as my tag line states, if it doesn't make sense, it's usually not true. Your instincts are working swell.

It's Trump.probably some one clued him in to the fact that a lot of people hate him. He thinks he is a king, not a president. The *beep* wants to shutdown anything or anyone who criticizes him.

Hey Wallace, did you just wake up from a coma and miss the past 8 years?

Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
Why are there Politics discussion boards? This is an entertainment website. I don't come here for politicsI come here for housewives!
Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
Politics affects everything so it makes sense the discussion boards includes them since many movies are documentaries, etc.
Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
Have no idea lol. I've wondered about that ever since I found out about the Politics board. After a while, I stopped caring why it existed and just jumped in. It's been a fascinating experience given this past historic election. I do believe and will continue to believe that there is a political angle to this site and other venues promoting the demise of debate. Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon/ IMDB is vehemently anti-Trump and just as in other areas of society, if there is even a whiff of pro-Trump debate, it is eventually shut down. But we will likely never really get a definitive reason for the shutdown of this site.

I'm surprised Yahoo News still has their comments section up since just about every news story that Yahoo posts is anti-Trump, but most of the people posting comments are pro-Trump. It goes against Yahoo's narrative and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they remove it like IMDB is removing theirs. I do notice that IMDB deletes posts on their Facebook page when the comment goes against something they're trying to convince people of. The world has gone crazy. I am going to miss posting here though.
Re: OT: What's the real reason they're shutting down the forum?
I agree KarmaFor You. I am sickened at how biased the media is. I know you are not supposed to say that, because then people label you a 'Trump tard" or something like that, but I am truly middle of the road, moderate politically. In my view it's the liberal media, which is most of the media (at least from where I stand) that is blatantly leftist. Videos of Trump or past Republicans are spliced up, and no one comments on it being spliced, they just hate on that Republican. If the repubs were to do that, it would be nationwide news.
I usually only listen to liberal news and radio stations, but lately I have listened to conservative ones. I am amazed that both sides operate with different facts and news pieces. It's so weird how they don't come together, or discuss the same facts. Both sides claim that theirs is the "true" facts. I'm just blown away. I really wish that there could be a reasonable, intelligent discussion on the issues instead of yelling, name calling and finger pointing. Oh, and lighting things on fires and letting the anarchists come in and destroy everything. Sorry for my ramble..
I thought IMDB in general was very good. They did not allow any discussions critical of Jews, I noticed, yet critical discussions were allowed regarding Christians, atheists, Muslims or whoever else. That was bias. And I think when it's that blatant it hurts your cause. I think if you are going to moderate criticisms of one religion then you should protect them all.
A simple mind is a tidy mind.

If there could figure out a way to make money off these boards, then they would stay.
