Trekkers Only! : They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
Thing is, any star trek character doesn't need to be any specific earth religion. Sure, they could have a Muslim actor playing a part (that would be good), but they don't need to make a special announcement of what religion this character is. When Trek gets into religion it typically ends up getting mocked (like the TOS episode where they worship a computer) or Chakotay's hokey fake 'tribe'.

Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
it can't be compared to other religions
oh, i think we can make lots of comparisons😝. It's no different to any other religion (it's based on the same fundamentals - highlighting the 'mentals' of course - as several other major religions). They all revolve around the same rules of 'give me your money or i kill you'.

Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
You know the old joke?
George Dubya Bush is taking a small walk in D.C., when he accidentally bumps into the Iranian ambassador.
"Good morning, Mr. President."
"Good morning, Mr. Ambassador. How do you like our great country so far?"
"It's truly great, magnificent. I love American culture. I especially love your TV shows. My very favorite American show is Star Trek."
"Oh really?"
"I just don't understand one thing. In the series, there are people from every ethnicity in the world, so why aren't there any Muslims in Star Trek?"
"You know, Mr. Ambassador, this series is set in the future..."
"A voice from behind me reminds me. Spread out your wings you are an angel."

Why would you want to do that to Star Trek!

Because Trek has always been about expanding boundaries and learning new things about new cultures, civilizations, and people different from you?

Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
Terran religions have bi and large not been mentioned in canonical Star Trek,
excluding a reference to either Thanksgiving or Christmas in "Charlie X" and Chakotay on "Voyager". However, in the books, Spock and Kirk are Jewish.

Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
A Jewish Spock doing his Vulcan greeting with his hand and then going: "Chazak u'varuch"
It means: Be Strong and Blessed.
I guess that's the closest you get to Live Long and Prosper.

Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
DS9 mentioned a New Mecca.
Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
So explain white supremacists around the world who kill/harass minorities or the IRA from Ireland, the Italian or Russian Mafia? Should we eradicate all white Caucasians just because of these few bad apples? Same case here. The vast majority of Muslims have nothing to do with evil groups such as ISIS, Al Queda and the like.

Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
No, I actually think they should fly the ship and leave behind tbeer1313 and his kind in an Ignorant Bigots Only zone and let them all blow each other! Let them discover new techniques they never knew they had!
Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
the muslims all work for the klingons
Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
Or better yet, they don't even need to mention the terrorist angle aside from fellow crewmembers/officers bullying them.
Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
Bullying them?...in your dreams.
Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
Isn't Dr. Bashir Pakistani by way of England? I'm not sure Earth religions even exist in the future of Star Trek. I mean, I've never seen a Starfleet chaplain.

Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
I really hope not. Gene Roddenberry probably would not have wanted this. My interpretation of Star Trek's fantasy future is that everybody has overcome their divisive beliefs and united with each other. At least in The United Federation Of Planets.

Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
Star Trek rarely if ever mentions realworld religions. Actually I cant remember a single instance of them getting mentioned, out of the top of my head, even if especially Deep Space Nine should have done so, considering how often they talk about Bajoran religion.
Either way, I think you can imagine pretty much any character in Star Trek being a muslim, if you want to. AFAICR theres nothing to prove the opposite.

Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
Just curious. How many TV shows, science fiction or otherwise, in a Muslim-controlled country show Christians or Jews as sympathetic characters? Do Muslim countries have TV dramas?
Re: They should have a Muslim crewman in the new show
I would say none because it was revealed several years ago, kids in Islamic countries are taught that Christians and Jews are the bad guys of the world and that Islam is the only true religion in the entire world in propaganda kids shows and cartoons on local television.
In reality, Star Trek is better of not showing any kind of Earth religion at all, as if humanity has grown up after WW3 and casted such nonsense away, in order to better them selves instead.
