Moon : Errors (Spoiler)

Errors (Spoiler)

Error 1, Ball # 1's deterioration was not explained. They should have let it be known that at the end of 3 years, the clone was no longer useful, and so he was expendable, and so cause his death.

Error 2, the escape hatch should have been the way they got rid of old clones. You leave, you are deteriorating, and we give you this hope, but sorry. We gas you, which seemed the original idea. So Ball #2 should have died when he tried to escape, rather than making a world-wide discussion on what was going on (sorry, no hope).

Error 3, many, many clones in waiting, and yet Ball's daughter was 17. The way it should have been is Ball's daughter was long, long dead, and the evil corporatists had managed to keep the game going for a very long, long time to an uncaring world.

I don't know who pulled the plug on this, but they should not have, IMO. I don't buy the premise this would not have worked, that there aren't people who would not do it, but that's my dark side (of the moon).

Re: Errors (Spoiler)

These are not errors, these are just changes to the story that you would have liked to see. But those changes don't make the story better, in my opinion; they make the movie worse.

About "Error 1": it was not explicitly explained in words because it was already shown, and the filmmakers assumed that the audience is intelligent enough to draw the right conclusions from what they see on screen.

About "Error 2": Bell #2 (who was actually Bell-6, the sixth clone) escaped through a pod that was normally used to send the Helium-canisters back to Earth. (That's why the moonbase was there: to mine the Moon for Helium and send it to Earth, where it is used as fuel.) The other pod that was "intended" to bring a clone back to Earth, was in another room, and it didn't go anywhere (why should it go anywhere?), it was merely a sort of incineration casket that quickly and effectively destroyed each Bell-clone. Bell #1 finds this out when he watches the log videos on the computer.

About "Error 3": yeah, you rather want a movie that is dark and cold, because that's so much cooler, right? Here's a solution for you: just watch the movie while wearing sunglasses, that way the movie is much darker and the experience is way more "cool".

I don't know what you mean by saying "I don't know who pulled the plug on this". Nobody "pulled the plug" on this movie, because "pulling the plug" means that a planned project is cancelled and a movie doesn't get made. Obviously this movie did get made. When you "pull the plug", it means that you are putting a stop to on-going activities (by cutting the power; by pulling the electrical plug out of the power socket).

Re: Errors (Spoiler)

By pulled the plug, I mean stopping following through with where the movie was going on its own. You think it is a different movie, I think it is a more realistic movie.

Moon ended up like those action adventure movies where the good guy kills dozens of bad guys. So unlikely as to be ridiculous.

But maybe people, mostly infants, like, maybe even need that kind of good feeling thing.

Some infants throw their toys out of the pram when they don't get what they want - like a film that exists entirely in their heads, perhaps?

Re: Errors (Spoiler)

sorry, but i don't think your first two "improvements" make the movie any more realistic than it already is. number three could be made to work, but ultimately doesn't make much difference either way - although sam's phone call to eve is the most emotionally impactful bit in the movie and i don't think you improve the movie by cutting that scene.

the ending is feel good? let's see...one sam is dead, another is on earth fighting the company and getting attacked in the media, and a whole base full of clones may or may not get wiped out. seems pretty ambivalent to me!

Re: Errors (Spoiler)

What Ball are you talking about? Don't remember anything about balls.

Re: Errors (Spoiler)

He meant Bell, the MC name. You can tell he didn't paid much attention to the movie, he can't even get the name right. His two 'errors' are pretty obvious and can be answered by actually watching the movie.

Re: Errors (Spoiler)

Error 1a, it is Sam Bell, not Ball.
Error 1b, they did show us that each Sam was on its end after 3 years, their hair was falling out, teeth falling out, getting increasingly sick and crippled.

Error 2, you are suggesting an alternative way of death, which in itself makes no difference on the plot. You prefer a gas chamber, but they gave you an incineration pod, too bad.
Sam was smart enough to take the H3 canister shuttle instead (sorry, hope).
You wanted to see something different, personal preference.

Error 3, once again you make a personal suggestion, but as other posters also have pointed out, that the conversation between Sam and Eve and his reaction to it, were one of the best moments of the movie, it would be hard to top this event without this interaction.

Error 4, 'pulling the plug' means to 'put an end to it', i think you meant pulling the strings.

Not that i dislike the bleak vision, but you cannot call it errors, they are just personal preferences.
