The Walking Dead : KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

LOL, when Rick said, in a very nasally voice that sounded just like a goat, "Kaaaang! Ka-ang!" I really cringed and giggled. That is NOT a Georgia accent, my friends.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

Thank you for bringing that up! I was gonna ask if that was Andy's British accent slipping through Certain Southern inflections sound English but that pronunciation sounded out-of-place for me.

I also love the way he said "they were HUUUN-gry." Andy is one committed actor.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

I still want to give Lincoln credit for being a British gentleman able to play a redneck southern sheriff, even if his accent is off occasionally. Like Hugh Laurie in Houseyou would never guess he is British.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

Amen to that - His natural English accent is pretty strong and without knowing his true background, you would just assume, at worst, Andy's an American actor acting Southern. I can't imagine how hard playing up a specifically Georgian-country/burbs accent is for someone from the old country.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

I'm from Georgia. It wasn't even close. This show butchers our lingo.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

That was a little scary. Gave me flashbacks to Jax losing his accent before all went to hell in SOA.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

Why don't Carol and Carl have Georgia accents despite being Georgia natives? Why didn't Lori, Andrea, Dale? What about Glenn?

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

There's no such thing as a "Georgia accent."

And besides, lots of people who are native to the South don't have Southern accents. Like me.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

Wrong.

Plus you're ignoring the second fact in my post.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

It's probably just hard to detect over the Brits' (Lauren Graham and Andrew Lincoln) exaggerated and off the mark accents.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

Lauren Cohan isn't British, and why she slips in & out of the accent within one sentence (on comicon, etc.). She does do a very passable Southern accent. Not everyone in the South sounds Southern. Someone mentioned Andrea and Carl..to our Southern ears we don't detect an accent. A great Southern accent isn't detectable by Southerners. It Just Is.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

Not everyone in the South sounds Southern.

Thank you. Not that there's anything wrong with sounding Southern.

Why is it that people don't know this?

Because stereotyping?

Because stereotyping?

Exactly

Why is it that people don't know this?

Because they haven't been in the South, and have only expeienced the South in all her ways through the movies & TV shows. But I'm sure you know how it is..everyone's an expert..

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

South here. Georgia to be exact.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

I'm gonna miss all the whining. Especially the ones about accents.

Re: KAAAANG! Not in Georgia

Southern accents in general are exaggerated by actors. His accent in that episode seemed really off, like worse than usual.
