The Big Bang Theory : Does anyone else get the feeling Penny is just getting sick of Leonard?

Every week there's some sort of rift between them; she feels she's being taken for granted or they can't understand each other's feelings. She's reexamining their life and she admitted she feels it's stagnant between them. She's comparing her marriage to her friend's marriage. These are pretty ominous signs that she'll never be totally happy or fulfilled.


I don't think it's completely her fault or hisif it's one thing I learned sometimes you try your hardest to make a relationship work, you fight and reconcile 100 times but you never feel completely satisfied.Finally you come to grips with the idea that you just might not be right for each other.

That hurts especially since we build every romance up in our head and have visions of finally ending that search for the ideal "one" but mathematically it will fail a certain number of times until one does Finally succeed. Leonard may not be that one. The problem is the lucky ones see that in the dating phase and the less fortunate ones realize it AFTER the vows or even 15 years into matrimony.

So are these the regular obstacles every young marriage will face we're seeing between them or do you think we're seeing signs they WON'T last?

Good questions.

Even though they've known each other for a long time and should be at the point where they are secure in their (and each other's) feelings, they still don't seem to "get" each other on a frequent basis. I think there is no denying that the writers are showing us that there are flaws in their relationship. Now, of course there are flaws in every relationship, but the question is, are they going to continue being at odds, or will they find the stability and contentment needed to be truly happy for the long-term?

The "Penny settled" proponents can really see their point of view being proven here - she is not satisfied with how things are, and she is not acting like a happily married woman. Is she going to turn to having a baby to try to give her life some excitement and fulfillment? That can be a recipe for disaster. Having a child has certainly prolonged bad relationships, but at what cost?

Agreed. I believe every relationship is a process and marriage especially should be a Process and not an event, but at some point it's like trying to fit square pegs into round holes with these two.

Honestly I don't believe Leonard is ALL of what she wanted, he might be 75% , but maybe she's realizing she NEEDS that missing 25% to be happy.

They ruined the premise having them get married etc.
You obviously do not know much about the show..
A girl like her would never shack up long term with Lenny and not cheat on him etc.
She is a self professed "Slut".
Of course she is going to get bored and restless.
When it comes to the writing they painted themselves into a very boring corner.

They sort of dropped the incessant dialogue about her being a slut in favor of being a more changed girl.. but that does not erase who she is and her history.
I can show case it in any of the older seasons in a heart beat !

They changed the show and it backed fired like i knew it would.
They have no choice but to jump the shark over & over or risk losing ratings.
They chose their path.. a weak dramedy sitcom shell of it's former self.

Those of you that lapped up the romance are now burnt out from it.
You got what you wanted didn't you ?
You got your romantic marriage hook up chick show drama BS right ?
Now what are they going to do to keep you all amused ?

I'm glad this show deserves to spiral down the toilet.
When you ruin it for ratings with pandering it deserves to crash & burn.

Rule of pandering with anything in life is don't do it because the people you pander to will later turn on you.

And look around .. it's happening.

I download each show as it comes on via file sharing sites then add them to WMC on WIN7 then i regularly put them on repeat by picking the season on shuffle.

So i am watching them on & off all the time.
And i play TBBT more than any other.. i grabbed each individual episode as it aired.. one by one over a decade.

I am the king of TBBT and probably recall more of it than the shows creators.
When they are making the next episode i am re watching all the shows over and over.

I support what Michael Moore said on the web when he predicted Trump would win.

I like Trump and his reality show but felt he was not appropriate for the job.
He had no previous experience and no way to get his vague campaign promises completed.
Such as when Hillary pointed out how the actual logistics of rounding up illegals and booting them out would be *almost impossible and VERY costly.

If was not Canadian i would have voted for Hillary just to stop Trump / Drumpf.

GREAT point. I think this started when she couldn't charm the guy at the restaurant into a table for Valentine's day and it's been getting worse ever since. I have to think more on this but I think you're got something here.

She is definitely not happy.

But is that because they are not suited or is it because she has some ideal in her head that could never be achieved with anyone?

It's tough to say. I guess a lot of it depends on how much is bad writing (and their marriage has been poorly written, can't deny it). I guess it's like a lot of relationships: you put your best foot forward in the beginning, but you can't keep that up forever, and the real you starts coming out. Also, what people want certainly changes over their life, and Penny (going by season years) is now 31 and certainly has different priorities than she did ten years ago. Obviously these are obstacles every relationship goes through, and hopefully in real life you communicate with your partner to work things out. But of course, this is a sitcom, and nothing can be resolved without complications and lots of one-liners.

It's possible we're being set up for something. They bring back Dean Norris, and suddenly the Air Force wants big changes to their design. What if Leonard now has to choose between the project and Penny? OK, that's a bit melodramatic, but I'm thinking something in that arena might be what we're in store for.

I hope she's getting sick of him but alas, I do not think they are going to split them up in some "the way we were" fashion. They've been nothing but problematic from the start. Why she married someone she argued with about trust all the way to Vegas I have no idea.

I don't think the writers are intentionally trying to convey that Penny is sick of Leonard or that they are not right for each other. I believe the show always intended for these two to end up together so I don't think the writers would do that. I think the problem is, even though, it was a cute story in the beginning when Leonard was chasing after Penny and everyone was wondering how he would finally get her, these two never really did have great chemistry. As much as I love the show overall, the fact is Penny and Leonard quite frankly are boring. I like them individually, but together they are boring.

I also think a big part of the problem is what Penny said after she found out Leonard had kissed another girl, she said, the main reason she fell in love with Leonard is because he was so different than other guy she had been with. Basically she chose Leonard because he was a nice guy, and then he did something not so nice. I personally don't think a kiss is necessarily something that can't be forgiven and moved on from, but though she tried to let it go, I really think it changed the way Penny sees Leonard. Another example of this is how upset Penny got in this season when she felt Leonard was taking her for granted, and even though quite frankly, he has done most of the work in the relationship, Penny got so upset that he wasn't basically putting all the effort in now. I think when it comes right down to it Penny chose Leonard not because she is madly in love with him, but because on some level she believed Leonard would always feel he didn't deserve her and and therefore always go way above and beyond in the way he treats her to make up for that. Whenever, Leonard doesn't display that way of thinking Penny feels let down.

And again also even though I think they genuinely care about each other that spark has never really been there in my opinion. It's like Penny said in season 6 she'd been in love before, but didn't remember it ever being so boring. The fact is whether two people are right for each other or not either the chemistry is there or it isn't. I just don't think it's there.

i'm sick of all of them by now so it doesn't bother me.
