The Big Bang Theory : Elevator

Elevator

I am new to watching BBT and getting caught up and I'm doing it all out of order, butI absolutely adore this show, and wish I had watched it from the beginning, but I'm more of a "movie person."

Anyways, I'm sure I've missed the explanation for this question that I have, and I'm sure the diehard BBT fans have an answer, but why after nearly 10 years has the elevator remained out of order? They could easily have an intro conversation in the elevator versus walking up the stairs, and I'm just curious.

Re: Elevator

There's never been an explanation in the show, but fans/watchers have various theories including that there was so much damage it would cost too much to repair.

Re: Elevator

There actually was an episode that explained the elevator failure. Someone might answer with the exact season and episode, but the failure was the result of the explosion of a canister placed inside the elevator car by Sheldon.

Literally true, but extremely misleading.

Leonard was mixing up rocket fuel. Sheldon realized that something had gone wrong and it was going to explode. He got the canister into the elevator, and Leonard out of the elevator, and the door closed before it exploded and took them all out.

Re: Elevator

Thank you for the clarification. I gave the basics figuring someone would fill in the details.

Re: Elevator

But the OP didn't ask why the elevator was broken. I expect they knew that part. They asked why it hadn't been repaired yet.

Which answer do you want?

The reason the ACTORS always walk the stairs instead of using the elevator is to allow for conversations between people outside of the apartments helping to set up amusing moments. This was what the producers wanted from the start, and the "Out Of Order" sign was placed on the elevator to explain why the characters walk the stairs. The reason that the elevator is out of order was explained after a few episodes.

The reason the CHARACTERS have allowed the elevator to go un-fixed has never been discussed.

Re: Elevator

Thank you everyone, for your helpful posts. I figured there was an explanation about it somewhereeven funnier that it actually had something to do with Sheldon!
