The Walking Dead : The Ratings Dip

The Ratings Dip

Well, they've talked quite a bit about the ratings dip -And people joke about it, but I personally do think that the loss of the Korean demographic alone would have shown up as more than just a blip on the charts.

Glenn & Abraham both were VERY popular characters.

Maybe Greg & the team are feelin' a little heat from AMC about the violence, but I do not anticipate that much of a decline in overtly violent kills Why? Because, that's how TWD made it's bones to begin with. Ever since the 1980's brought AIDS into the cultural lexicon, sex on TV has pretty much been a no go

Remember all those nubile young teens that got slaughtered in all those old slasher films? Remember the most common, "Rule" of those films was that if you had premature sex you were made to be a victim Only the chaste and pure survived

Violence on TV is going nowhere. It's here to stay, mostly because producers are simply too afraid to try anything different. (Some shows like, "This Is Us" are doing their best to take a different approach) Deep and thoughtful shows can inspire us to be at our best. To rise above

-With shows like TWD, the only thing we learn is that we're all pretty much just a bunch of animals. What Rick & the team are willing to do in order to stay alive is the real story.

Rick biting the,"Claim-Gang" leaders throat out told most of us exactly what life would be like under such duress

-Hard-core fans who think and are concerned about such matters will never leave or abandon the show.

an' just like Forrest -That's all I have to say about that subject.

Re: The Ratings Dip

People who hold grudges over a character's death should die with them. Everyone is expendable in TWD. Characters come and go, we grow attached to some of them, they die and we move on. That's what the show has BEAT INTO OUR HEADS (metaphorically) for almost 10 years.

Re: The Ratings Dip

viewers that left the show just because their favorite character died are false fans
the ratings are down not only because general ratings are down but cuz they finally realized that the show has lost quality

Re: The Ratings Dip

-I'm willing to Rick & his family several more chances. Besides, it's either this, or I have to move back to Z-Nation And I hear now that they're gonna build this frickin' wall like thing to keep us all out! Oh, the humanity!

Re: The Ratings Dip

Z-Nation is god awful. I fell asleep during the pilot twice and still haven't finished it.

Re: The Ratings Dip

Actually, I do believe that, "American Horror Story" is the worst. -It can take me up to 7 or 8 different viewings just to get through ONE EPISODE! I love it. It is the best that the worst has to offer, an' I can't get enough of it! -I sure do love they way they all switch characters around after each season! So much stupid fun!

Re: The Ratings Dip

I think you've missed the point of what was wrong with the violence. Don't know how many times this has to be stated. I've seen every season of TWD several times and the violence in season 7's premiere was the worst not only dueo to how it was shot but also the tone.

The show, which has become more and more juvenile and unsophisticated, tried to tantalize viewers with violence and glorify it. They also tried to glorify Negan. And Kirkman is so butthurt that people do not like Negan because somehow he thought we would just love him, his bat and seeing bloody pulp fly.

Their treatment of human life fell to an alltime low. It doesn't compare to the more skillful treatments of beloved characters. But I have little respect for how things are done under Gimple. He and Kirkman make the show worse and worse.

Mmmm…

I say it again. -Well, regarding the excessive violence & The ratings dip

Re: Mmmm…

Look above, darlin'. You already posted that.

Re: Mmmm…

I know. But this whole, "Violence" is killin' the show theme is just plain silly. I'd say for the most part that we all enjoy watching a good kill on, "The Walking Dead". That's why SO MANY of us watch the show. The kills on TWD are no were near as graphic as those on Z-Nation. -And Z-Nation is pretty damn mainstream. TWD is show about survival and not much else I love the heart of the characters, but as with any TV show, they all act with a certain amount of, "La-La-Logic" built into them that comes attached with any contrived idea or person. It's a TV show folks. No one is actually getting hurt. That is another basic reason why we all love zombie themed entertainment: It allows us to, "kill" another individual without having to feel any guilt.

You can either can dig it or not.

Re: Mmmm…

Anyone who believes that violence is killing the show is a moron.

What's killing the show, and has been for a long time, is the atrotious writing and dialogue that takes place between these people. It's a lack of creativity and endless predictability in these poorly written characters.

Re: Mmmm…

Did I mention the, "La-La-Logic" part? You just have expect the kids to investigate the graveyard rather than get into the running Chevy

Other examples of, La-La Logic:

When a person gets out of a car they will more often than not leave their headlights on. Maybe they they think they can use the lights for effect / blocking. (I dont know!) But even the average Joe will often comment that, this course of action will leave even a movie-car with a dead battery!

Superheros must fight each other before they can fight the villain.
Stupid. This seems to happen in every, Avengers movie!

If your film takes place in the 50s, it seems as though every single car is in mint condition & washed! Also, every house is spotless and people dont even seem to have or create garbage!:

See, American Graffiti, My Girl, Back To The Future, Dead Poets Society, Forrest Gump, Driving Miss Daisy. You name it. However, (Thank God!) It now seems that, Hollywood might be getting over this one!

And of of course, Every side-walk and street must be wetted down!
It seems to me to be a bit of a waste of water just to make the streets shine!

Whenever you hand someone knife, run up to them like youre going to kill them, then
quickly turn the knife around and passively hand it to them!

OMG! I hate that one!

Re: Mmmm…

It's just how La-La-Land works. It's called, "La-La-Logic". It's why people do stupid things in movies. It just looks "Better". At least that's the idea.

^ This. The show sucks.

Re: Mmmm…

Anyone who believes that violence is killing the show is a moron.

The violence in the season opener did lead to a massive drop in the ratings. Nearly 5 million peopleprobably the biggest drop in TWD's history.

Re: Mmmm…

Glenn & Abraham both were VERY popular characters.

Abraham was damaged goods by the time he died; they'd given him the traditional set-up for death by having him behave horribly toward Rosita so viewers wouldn't really feel so attached to him. Deaths on TWD are always telegraphed way in advance. Both he and Glenn were set up to die in the previous season; the only real surprise was that both were then killed.

With Glenn, the writers went about it in what most fans of the show will consider the "wrong" way. Whenever one of the major characters have been killed in the past, the writers have always gone out of their way to demonize that character, making the character either incredibly annoying or someone viewers hate to the point that by the time they're bumped off, viewers are glad to see them go. The series is gutless in that way, and that has continued through three different regimes. Glenn broke that rule. Viewers still liked him and when he was killed, TWD's writers didn't just kill him, they used that as the opportunity to introduce to the series the kind of violence that was routinely featured throughout the comic run. That violence had always been so watered down as to be virtually non-existent and suddenly the creators throw at viewers a virtual panel-by-panel reproduction of Glenn's death from the comic. Without first making them dislike Glenn.

Re: Mmmm…

Negan-type violence occurs every single day in the sh!tty corners of the world. People need to sack up and be aware that it's not just fiction and could happen to them.
