What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films released so far and please separately say why, for each fave one named.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

5.Last Samurai
It's a really solid movie. I don't particularly think it's even close to his best performance, but the film isn't in a rush, and it's beautifully shot.

4.The Outsider's
He didn't have the biggest role, but I'm a sucker for a greaser flick. And the film is just so hard-hitting.

3.Rain Man
Defo one of his best performances. Very subtle and power emotions going-on in this one.

2.The Color of Money
He was PERFECT for that role at that time!

1.Collateral
Well, first I'm a huge Michael Mann fan, and this is one of the director's and actors best

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

I enjoy several of his movies and performances.

I'm only rating the movies he was in, not the performance.

1. Magnolia
2. Collateral
3. Born on the Fourth of July
4. Eyes Wide Shut
5. Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation / Minority Report

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

1. Eyes Wide Shut Kubricks last film is a near masterpiece of tension, paranoia, moral battles and distrust. Only marred by a laughable performance by Nicole Kidman

2. Collateral another great crime film from Michael Mann, Tom Cruise being this villain with grey hair and a grey suit was a masterstroke.

3. Vanilla Sky Great remake of a good film, a richer deeper experience and a superb casting of Cameron Diaz as a *beep* crazy person. Cruise has plenty of great scenes too and is put on a pretty crazy roller coaster.

4. Interview with the Vampire Tom Cruise's first time as a villain and he is excellent. He turned around the opinion of the skeptical Anne Rice on this one too.

5. Jack Reacher there were quite a few going for the 5th spot, top fun with that soundtrack and homoeroticism or one of the latter Mission Impossibles or Edge of Tomorrow for popcorn throwing fun.... but I will go for Jack Reacher because of that awesome car chase :)

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

5. 'Top Gun' It doesn't age well, and it gets tedious at times, but once in a while I have to sit down and re-watch this. Still a classic in some respects. Worth it to me.
4. 'Rain Man' Amazing movie all around. Great performances from Cruise and Hoffman. I need to sit down and watch it again, I haven't for so long.
3. 'Jack Reacher' Cruise's true bad@$$ nature is shone in this. Rather than just be another 'Mission: Impossible', Reacher's adventures seem to be a little more grounded, more of Cruise's Jason Bourne/John Wick character than Ethan Hunt is. He makes lines that would sound cheesy sound threatening and real. I can't wait for 'Never Go Back' and will be seeing it this weekend!
2. 'Collateral' Almost underrated, or at least not often mentioned. His best performance to date, a very re-watchable movie with very little mistakes.
1. 'Rock of Ages' Yeah, sue me. The movie is dumb but fun, and Cruise knocks the flip out of the role of Stacee Jaxx. Ethan Hunt and Joel and Maverick may be his most famous characters, but he was born to play a rock god.

Close Calls:
'Mission: Impossible III/Ghost Protocol/Rogue Nation' I think it's safe to say that once Cruise and JJ Abrams got more creative control on this franchise, it has been picking up and getting better and better with each installment. MI6 is on the way, so I guess they're not slowing down anytime soon!
'Live, Die, Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow' My buddies and I had a surprisingly good time with a movie we were expecting to find stupid. The third act is a little underwhelming but if you can keep up and suspend disbelief, the first and second acts are a thrill ride.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

Eyes Wide Shut - a masterpiece that gets better with each viewing. Great performances, excellent cinematography, terrific music choices, and a layered story.

Magnolia - a magnificent ensemble piece that is an emotional roller coaster ride. The three hours fly by and it also features Cruise's best performance.

Collateral - a great crime thriller from Michael Mann with a terrific plot and one of Cruise's best performances.

Top Gun - amazing soundtrack, cool action scenes, and just a lot of fun.

Vanilla Sky - I love movies like this that make you think. The cast is great, good soundtrack, and a very interesting plot.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

Struggling to cut it down to 5, but...

5. Tropic Thunder - not your typical 'Tom Cruise film' since he isn't the star, but I couldn't leave out one of my favourite comedies, and his performance is part of the reason why.

4. Jerry Maguire - A truly touching film with one of my favourite romance quotes - plus he has a scary resemblance to my boyfriend in this one, which makes it even more entertaining.

3. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - Just plain fun with some amazing stunt work, great action scenes and hilarious gags.

2. Rain Man - Obviously I couldn't leave this one out. It is an emotional roller coaster with one of the most intriguing and entertaining characters I've ever seen in a film.

1. Collateral - A personal favourite for me. Tom Cruise is rarely the bad guy, but this proves he's more than capable of being one. With a great cast, twists and turns, chases and action sequences, Collateral tops the list.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

1. Collateral- Very different work for Cruise, playing an antagonist and a nominated worthy performance.

2. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol- Best Mission Impossible effort to date.

3. Interview with the Vampire- No matter how hard Brad Pitt was trying to be lead on this one, the award goes to Lestat, great character by Cruise.

4. Minority Report- Intelligent thriller with great plot, message and good acting.

5. Jack Reacher- Awesome underrated performance and movie by Cruise.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

Magnolia, Rain Man, The Color Of Money, Risky Business, Taps - because he had good co-stars who could carry Cruise throughout the films.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

Collateral - fantastic performance, intense atmosphere, great ending.

Eyes Wide Shut - mesmerizing surreal existential trip. Underrated Kubrick flick.

Top Gun - Childhood favorite. Watched it with my father as a kid.

The Color Of Money - Underrated Scorsese. Newman and Cruise at their best.

Minority Report - One of the best Sci Fi Movies of the 2000s.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

1.Jerry Maguire (1996) - 9/10
2.Valkyrie (2008)
3.The Color of Money (1986) - 8/10
4.Interview With The Vampire (1994) (the #1 vampire themed movie, by far)
5.Mission Impossible (1996) - 7.5-8/10
-.Mission Impossible III (2006)
-.Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015)
-.Risky Business (1983)
-.War of the Worlds (2005)
10.Rain Man (1988)
11.Eyes Wide Shut (1999) - 7.5/10 (maybe a 7)
12.Top Gun (1986) - 7-7.5/10
13.Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) - 7/10
14.Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

that's everything of his i gave a 7 or higher and makes them within my Top 212 movies at the very least. also, no one can top the volume of quality movies he's been in either as he's got the best filmography out there.

p.s. i know it's more than five movies but he's got nearly triple that amount that stands out so i just mentioned those instead.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

COLLATERAL-Cruise's best performance and also Mann's best film. Entertaining, fluid, re-watchable existential tale that should have gotten way more attention at the Oscars than it did.

MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE-Best of the film series; claustrophobic intense fast-paced movie; Cruise is 100% convincing

RISKY BUSINESS-Atmospheric, funny, clever film; Cruise funny in this one

JERRY MAGUIRE-Cruise should have won Best Actor for this; while Cuba Gooding was showing off, Cruise kept it real and carried the show start to finish

JACK REACHER-Regardless of the books, Cruise slipped into this role beautifully fashioning on old-school, gritty, entertaining action piece. He played a grizzled tough guy very convincingly

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

I'm sorry, but I only have 4. They are (in alphabetical order):

-EDGE OF TOMORROW (9/10): Entertaining and clever in its use of a not-so-original concept.

-A FEW GOOD MEN (9/10): Great performances and dialogue.

-TROPIC THUNDER (9/10): Hilarious and insightful enough on the Hollywood showbiz.

-WAR OF THE WORLDS (10/10): Thrilling and compelling with some smart moments.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

I don't really like him as an actor, I think his good performances are few and far between, but when he does give a good performance (or is just cast particularly well) it's outstanding. My biggest complaint about him is he almost always plays "Tom Cruise."

My five are:

Eyes Wide Shut- Fantastic film overall, he does play "Tom Cruise" but it works here because that's what the character is supposed to be.

Magnolia- Another fantastic film with a marvelous ensemble cast perfectly balanced in the way that only Paul Thomas Anderson can do. Here he steps out of the "Tom Cruise" role and delivers a performance with such emotion and vulnerability. Really endeared me to him and his work.

Interview with the Vampire- He was spot on in this. The casting was so great. When I heard he was going to play Lestat I thought that was a ridiculous notion but was completely convinced afterwards. He, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst were pretty flawless in this and the film remains one of my favorites.

Rain Man- This is a classic and Tom Cruise, again as "Tom Cruise" worked so well as the character and of course Dustin Hoffman was brilliant as usual.

Legend- Love this whimsical, gorgeous fantasy film. Of course the best performance was Tim Curry as Satan but Tom Cruise happened to be in it- it could have been another young, boyish actor. He did well but I love the film more than I love his performance.

Honorable mentions to Minority Report (again as "Tom Cruise") because I love all of the films adapted from Philip K. Dick's works, and Tropic Thunder. He was hardly in Tropic Thunder but I loved the whole movie, so brilliantly stupid and perfectly offensive.

I've also heard that he turned a great performance in Born on the Fourth of July, but I've yet to see it. I've also yet to see Valkyrie, which I heard was good.

Re: What are your 5 current favorite Tom Cruise films and why ?

1. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (the best film in the Mission: Impossible franchise)
2. Top Gun (the soundtrack is one of the reasons this film was extremely popular)
3. Interview with the Vampire (even though Cruise's casting as Lestat was initially, controversial, I consider IWTV as the best non-Dracula vampire film)
4. Eyes Wide Shut (his sex scenes with Kidman were the best thing of the film)
5. The Last Samurai (the battle scenes are epic)
