John Wick: Chapter 2 : Reeves is as wooden as ever

Great action, but the so-called "leading man" might as well be reading his lines off a cue card. Some actors can turn it up to "11", but Keanu turns it down to "5"and leaves it there. Stop him before he "acts" again! Final rating: 7/10. ?

Yeah that's your opinion pal. Keanu has a deadpan charisma. And that's him doing almost all the stunts. Dude is a movie star for a reason.

John Wick isn't supposed to walk around smiling and high fiving everyone. Would a guy like him even have a personality when he's killed so many people in the span of a few days (across both movies)?

Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise work as action stars but they aren't always that believable in like hitman or serious action type of roles because their star power is more important than the character

I think the Reeves does a great job at remaining pretty calm and keeping the character low key. After all how would you expect a real assassin to be? they probably would be extremely deadpan and quiet like John Wick is.

Keanu kills it. Just like with Neo, sometimes underplaying the role isn't such a bad thing

That is the whole point of his character. He is talking in one liners and it works. All the one liners are awesome. I loved when he was talking Russian and his use of sign Language. He was awesome.

I have never gotten this about Reeves.

My only issue with him was Dracula. He seemed out of place in that period piece, but he was ok in other historical roles.

I'd argue that he was pretty damn wooden in Much Ado About Nothing, as well.

I normally argue against the whole Keanu being "wooden" thing because honestly, he has a number of roles that prove otherwise. In this particular case, I would slightly agree, BUT, only because he SHOULD be somewhat "wooden".

He should not be charismatic in any way whatsoever. Think of how many people he's killed Hundreds. His wife is dead, home destroyed. In reality, probably anyone's mind would've completely broken at the point he is at. So yeah, he should be a bit emotionally stiff, anything else would be too far away to believe.

That's kinda the point. This role was tailor-made for Reeves and that's why it works. He's convincing as ever as John Wick and doesn't distract or try to be more than an assassin. He reminds me of the antagonists in those John Woo films of past, or the Steven Seagal movies. Just straight up vintage action. Go hate somewhere else.

he is a man of few words, which is why when he does speak, people listen like in the first movie when Viggo calls john.. and John doesnt say anything, while Viggo is talking, and John hangs up, and the Avi ask's what did John say.. and Viggo says " enough " , Viggo knew they was in for some *beep*

His acting isnt wooden at all his acting in the first and 2nd movie are what make the Character so appealing

..well first off, we don't go to a movie like John wick for the acting lol.. but good solid dialog is nice. John wick is a simple movie that sets up all the action and thrills. I thought keanu owned this role and acts as good as anyone could. can't wait for chapter 3

Keanu plays the character like he is; a cold, sociopathic (possibly autistic) loner of few words who has only ever loved one person in his life.

Keanu as John Wick is as perfect as he's ever been on screen. He owns the role, ya dig? Damn good casting.

His performance is exactly what we expect from John Wick. So he was perfect.

He plays the character exactly the way the character is supposed to be.

Can't get much better than that.

He's perfect. Man of few words. Dark and tormented and formidable. This entire movie is a choreographed killfest. And the scenes in Rome and NYC are spectacular and well thought out. Especially Rome - in the baths with opera. But the scenes with Common are particularly wonderful and underground societies in both cities and the subways. Both sanctuary hotels are splendid too. Not to mention the museums and exhibits with the mirrors and marble statue of Hercules.This is a really good movie and Keanu is perfect. You say wooden, but wooden may mean that you realize he's barely existing. It is all about presence and that's what he has - a lot of presence. So does the rest of movie. A very Roman historical presence.

He's perfect, especially in the first movie. Like someone else stated, it's all about presence, his character is not meant to be charismatic. He doesn't like the life he's led and loves his wife dearly, he's a tortured soul.
