The Lego Batman Movie : is it that good
Re: is it that good
Well I'm seeing there's two schools of thought on this now. There's the notion that a film critic will put movie over country and rate said given movie on intended audience's enjoyment of said movie. And critics should be seen as hero's for doing as such.except for movies aimed at black people cause critics usually hate those movies no matter what.
The other school of thought is that since the dawn of pixar (though I've never been one to differentiate Pixar from Disney but you do you), aiminated faire has been deemed adult worthy. Never mind by the time Pixar came around you already had mainstream critic's who had grown up on Disney and were therefore willing to see a lot more merit than mainstream ciritcs who were around during the rise of Disney. But once Pixar hit it was given cartoons were now universal. So they should be able to be enjoyed by all walks of life to be deemed as good.
I think the Lego Movie falls easily into the later category. It was so universally liked that it created a ton of good will. Lego Batmannow Batman is seen as an adult thing, is receiving a lot of that goodwill. That's not to say it's bad. It's fine, but Lego Batman clearly falls into the first category of criticismif critics were being fair about it.
Most critics I've read are saying it's one for the ages a universal thing. Take Storks or Trolls for example, both not very well critically received, but almost all those reviews say it's a fine movie for younger children older people will be board. Your not seeing that in the Lego Batman reviews, and I say Lego Batman is on par with Storks and Trolls. And that's fine, it's all for the ten and under crowd. So if you like that a lot, you'll love Lego Batman.
If you go in expecting to see a Pixar level movie as I'd say Lego Movie was, different emotions but a movie for all ages. You will be disappointed.
Bottom line, I saw Lego Batman as a grown man by myself and felt like I had wasted my time. Had I found some child to take with me I would have enjoyed it more. It's not a bad movie, but I saw it on Monday and it's already fading into the montage of all the forgettable movies I've seen. It doesn't stick like the greats.
