Re: Best Films of 2016?

As usual, I'm pretty selective about what I watch and don't put a lot of time in exploring movies I'm not fully inclined to see. Of the ones I have seen, I really liked and either own or will own the blu-rays of:

10 Clover Field Lane
The Nice Guys
Rogue One

Haven't yet seen but want to:

Hell or High Water
Nocturnal Animals

Re: Best Films of 2016?

I've only seen 46/89 on my '16 watchlist, but so far these have stood out...

Rogue One
Train to Busan
Hell or High Water

The Wailing

Re: Best Films of 2016?

Here are all the 2016 movies that I saw, and I may say that none of them was actually that bad 😉😉

Finding dory
Sausage Party
Doctor Strange
The neon demon
Lights out
Edge of winter
The conjuring 2
The legend of tarzan

Re: Best Films of 2016?

Out of the 45 2016 released movies i have seen so far here is the only movies i like...

1.The Magnificent Seven - 7/10
2.The Neon Demon - 6-6.5/10
-.The Accountant
-.In a Valley of Violence
6.The Witch - 6/10
-.Blood Father
8.Batman v Superman
-.Independence Day: Resurgence
-.War Dogs
-.Suicide Squad
--.The Infiltrator
14.Hell or High Water
15.Mr. Right
16.Special Correspondents

2016 is easily my overall weakest year since 1998 as i would have to go back to 1998 to find a weaker overall year. main problem with this year is lack of movies i score a 7 or higher as it's only got one where as the rest of the years in the current decade average 8.83 (round it to 9) movies i score at least a 7 (2014 is the least amount with six movies i gave a 7 or higher). so as you can see... 2016 is in the dumpster compared to your typical years in recent memory as i thought 2014 was somewhat weak but that year looks great in comparison to this year.

i have only seen each movie once on that list so far besides... The Neon Demon/The Witch/Blood Father/Batman v Superman which i have seen twice. my list will likely vary some upon more re-watches and will be a while before i make a final more official 'My Favorite Movies of 2016' type of list. hell, if i don't find at least a couple more movies i score a 7 or higher i might not even bother with a official list this year due to how weak it is.

NOTE: there is about five movies i still need to see that i am aware of and i would assume some will be on the list above, which are... Passengers/Silence/Hacksaw Ridge/Nocturnal Animals/Arrival and maybe a little bit past those.

My Top 100-ish Movies of All-Time! =

Re: Best Films of 2016?

Those 5 you mentioned are all pretty good, passengers followed by arrival being the weakest of the 5 IMO.

have you seen Moonlight, Manchester By the Sea or La La Land though? Or maybe Snowden, The Nice Guys, Cafe Soiety, Patriots Day, Hidden Figures, Money Monster?

i think if you seen the 5 you want to see and the ones i mentioned above that you haven't seen you might think of 2016 a bit stronger.

Re: Best Films of 2016?

1. Arrival
2. Sing Street
3. The Nice Guys
4. Captain Fantastic
5. Hunt For The Wilderpeople
6. War Dogs

Still haven't seen alot of 2016 movies. Really looking forward to La La Land.

Re: Best Films of 2016?

There really weren't many impressive films that came out this year, but the top ones for me I guess are:

1. The Nice Guys
2. Dr. Strange
3. The Edge of Seventeen
4. Sully
5. Arrival
6. Star Trek Beyond

Anything after that isn't noteworthy.

Still hoping to see Moana, Fences, Rogue One and La La Land...

Re: Best Films of 2016?

Here is my list of best movies of 2016:

Re: Best Films of 2016?

My 10s: Kubo and the Two Strings, Hacksaw Ridge, Edge of Seventeen, Zootopia and A United Kingdom (scheduled US 2017 release, I'm from New Zealand). Silence hasn't arrived here yet and it's one that I've got high hopes of being a 10.

Re: Best Films of 2016?

I haven't seen that much, and a lot of what I've seen have been art films or older films. Of what I've seen, these are my favorites:

1. Swiss Army Man
2. Deadpool
3. The Beatles: 8 Days A Week

Re: Best Films of 2016?

I'm seriously not kidding when I say Batman v. Superman: Ultimate Edition is, in my opinion, the best film of 2016 quality wise. I don't even like either characters in the comics and I somehow LOVED them here. Really frustrates me how much venomous hate that movie gets on the IMDb forums.

Re: Best Films of 2016?

1. Passengers
2. La La Land
3. Arrival
4. X-Men: Apocalypse
5. Sing
6. Zootopia
7. Hidden Figures

9. Moonlight
10. The Nice Guys

A lot of people are probably looking and my list going what how'd they like that movie so much bwhahahha.

Re: Best Films of 2016?

In Stockholm we will not often see foreign movies the same year as they were released. Among those I have seen the following are those I like/love most:

”Albüm” by Can Mertoglu, Mehmet (Turkey, 2016)
Adoption is criminal in Turkey. A married couple succeed to get a child. Someone detects that the child is not “genuine”. In the last scene both parents go with the baby near a double waterfall. Do they intend to drown the baby?

”L’avenir” (The Day After This One) by Hansen-Löve, Mia (France, 2016)
The two (almost adult) children in the family have discovered that the father has a lover. The children will not tell anything to their mother (Isabelle Huppert). But they request that the father must choose. A peaceful divorce. But both parents are university teachers in philosophy, and students will strike.

”Paradise” by Konchalovsky (Russia, Germany, 2016)
My favourite at Stockholm Film Festival.

”Me Before You” by Starrock, Thea (USA, 2016)
After an accident the boy, now in a wheelchair, is lame from the waist downwards. It is not irrelevant whether he could still have an erection. The young girl who is nursing him does discuss with him whether they could have sex. Her positions seem to indicate that they could practice fellatio (if the boy could just have an erection). But what could he do to her?

“Elle” by Verhoeven, Paul (Spain, Lichtenstein, South Africa, Australia, Portugal, 2016)
The female chief of an enterprise is raped several times in her home, and searches the perpetraitor.
