Re: Saddest movie ever?

There is nothing sad about Beauty and the Beast and Frozen. They both end as happy as it can get. 12 years A Slave ends as good as possible, The Fox and the Hound, Up and TS3 have sad moments, but they end on a positive note. At worst bittersweet. Haven't seen the rest, but i'm skeptical as to whether or not they are that sad based on your other examples.

Re: Saddest movie ever?

Black (2005) is the saddest film I have ever seen. I cried and cried as my tears were waiting in my eyelids all the years before that film.

Re: Saddest movie ever?

I would say that Hachi: A Dog's Tale , The Green Mile and Into the Wild.
But in the Hachi the catharsis is strongest.. this movie is so artistic and beautiful that in the end it just shoots you straight into the heart with an arrow covered with pure love.

Re: Saddest movie ever?

Agreed.

Tears involuntarily fell for 45 minutes as I watched Hachi. I couldn't stop them.

I haven't read all of the posted responses, but any list of sad movies would have to include Sophie's Choice. Devastating.

I think The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is the saddest I've ever been at an ending. And even though I guess I knew the inevitable was coming... I still just cried and cried. I felt like there had been a death in the family.

Re: Saddest movie ever?

There were parts of 12 years a slave that had me bawling. Iron Giant also had me crying. I've cried in sooo many movies so it's hard to keep track. I'm afraid to watch Hachi because of how emotional I might get.

Re: Saddest movie ever?

Hi,
usually I don't post about a movie I haven't watched yet... but
"Threads"
must be very, very depressing, if the descriptions I have read are correct!
"Acla" (Acla's Descent into Floristella, i.e. Floristella Sulphur Mines) is also a very dark movie. The main character is played by a beautiful actor whom I like very much; BUT it's depressing to imagine that what we see is not mere fiction - at the time, about 100 years ago, these people really lived under such bad conditions! All that poverty and violence, and what makes it worse: for most people there was no ray of hope that some day things might get better...

sprendlinger

Re: Saddest movie ever?

"Threads" is more disturbing and scary than sad due to the fact that the style is completely unsentimental.

Re: Saddest movie ever?

Re: Saddest movie ever?

Not even close to the Japanese movie/drama series "1 litre of tears", or the Korean drama "A thousand days promise".

Re: Saddest movie ever?

Hachi, a dog tale.

Re: Saddest movie ever?

Charlotte's Web (animated)
Titanic (1997)
King Kong (1933)
Braveheart
The Black Stallion
And a movie i don't know the name of that concerns prehistory and two races of cavemen, one violent, the other passive. Naturally the Violent ones slaughtered the other tribe, til just one was left and he dies alone on the beach because it its just not in his nature to kill.

Re: Saddest movie ever?

The Black Stallion??? It's been a while but I seem to remember it being a very happy movie. Doesn't it all end with him winning the big race having been reunited with his Mother?

Not sure of the caveman film but it sounds great.

Never seen Titanic. I didn't find Braveheart at all sad.

"Never eat yellow snow"

Re: Saddest movie ever?

Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)
IMO nothing even close and I've seen titles on this thread.
Even Grave of the Fireflies (1988)didn't effect me much. But maybe because I watched it a Day after Hachi.
