IMDB message boards RIP facebook group:

The IMDB message boards are scheduled to close completely just under two weeks.

Discuss where to go for movie debate now?

Re: IMDB message boards RIP facebook group:

Why the *beep* would any sane person think a Facebook group, A *BEEP* FACEBOOK GROUP, where the average user is 10 years old and obsessed with likes, fake friends, candy crush, reposting random "who will you marry" posts and selfies, is any kind of replacement for a site dedicated to film and TV shows, for discussing film and TV shows?

That's not a dig at the OP, that's a big "*beep* you, you *beep*" to IMDb. I'm so happy I never wasted my money to go pro, to be treated like a 2nd class citizen because, you know... it's Facebook... *beep* you, *beep* you very much!

Absolute, *beep* insanity!

Well said, Mr Zoolook! Couldn't agree more. Facebook is a dumpster packed with insolent attention seeking teenagers and fakers (as you put it) I pity those who rely on Facebook to drive their friendship and social interaction, imagine how miserable they would be if Facebook shutdown or when they accidentally lose their hundreds of fake strangers they call "friends" They share frivolities in their daily life that no one cares about and expect a bag of freshly baked attention in return. LOL pitiful morons!
That cesspool they inhabit in will never be a match for IMDb boards where people would atleast have a level headed discussion from time to time.

The might of Elrond is in wisdom not in weapons, it is said.

Re: IMDB message boards RIP facebook group:

This group is not intended to replace IMDb with facebook, this is just a forum (made quickly with the convenience of Facebook groups, which will not require people signing up new accounts if they are already on there) in which to discuss alternatives to IMDB in the interim, until a suitable website does take over from where IMDb message boards leave off. If you are not a member of facebook already then of course there's a good chance this will not be of interest to you.

Re: IMDB message boards RIP facebook group:

The unrestrained, exaggerated characterization of and unhinged animosity towards Facebook by some borders on the delusional, but that's to be expected. Suffice it to say that there are those who have had little or no experience with Facebook and therefore think they know everything about it. Those people make rash generalizations about it that are as nonsensical as non-computer users classifying everyone who uses the internet as a bunch of crazy 10 years olds who do nothing more than play candy crush and post pictures of their lunch. Those who take great joy in hating on Facebook refuse to understand that their experience is not everyone's experience, nor even a particularly common one.

In the same vein, there are some people who like IMDB Message Boards, and many others who don't. I'm in the camp that cares about them. I also use and enjoy Facebook. On my profile there, I have shared information about the IMDB boards being shut down, as well as links to the online petitions and IMDB alternatives. I've also joined the ranks who have gone to the IMDB Fb page to express my disappointment and anger about their decision.

There is no way that Fb, Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat can replace the Message Boards here. They don't work the same. They aren't organized the same... There's too many differences to even contemplate how anyone could consider any of those, or all of them together, as some sort of replacement. The closest analogy I can think of is replacing a community research library, organized and cross-referenced 6 ways from Sunday, with a system in which people paint graffiti on passing freight trains. Yes, in both cases, anyone can contribute, but only one has any potential for truly fostering interesting and intelligent exposition and analysis, which can be extended for months or years as new contributors enter the room. The other social media platforms give you a snapshot of something going by at the moment, but are almost impossible to use for anything of permanence.

That said, I requested to join the RIP IMDB group on Facebook two or three days ago and my request is still pending. Whomever the admin of that group is, they're apparently asleep at the switch.
