Date Night : Raymond Burr?

Raymond Burr?

What did James Franco mean when he called Steve Carell "Raymond Burr" while he was holding the old gun on him? Thanks!

Re: Raymond Burr?

According to the goofs section:

"Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Taste tries to reference the Alexander Hamilton/Aaron Burr duel, but refers to Raymond Burr instead."

Re: Raymond Burr?

It's called a joke. There are frequently multiple occurrences of these in comedic films.

Re: Raymond Burr?

If you don't know the answer to the question, some snarky comment isn't a good substitute.

Re: Raymond Burr?

Don't worry, I had to look up who Raymond Burr was and then I still didn't get it lol.

Apparently James Franco adlinned that bit and they kept it in the picture (in the bloopers when he says it and starts laughing that was the first time he said it.

Re: Raymond Burr?

I thought it was a "you're gay" statement.

Re: Raymond Burr?

None of the above. It is a referral to the actor Raymond Burr, who played the role of private detective Perry Mason, among others.

Re: Raymond Burr?

No, AvengingTilde is right. It's a reference to the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr because of old fashioned gun he had. He said Raymond Burr instead. Funny thing is I got the reference but didn't even notice he said the wrong Burr LOL

Re: Raymond Burr?

The joke is that James Franco's character is such an idiot, he doesn't know the difference between Aaron Burr and Raymond Burr.

Re: Raymond Burr?

Wow, someone here actually got that. Nice. And it was pretty funny.

"I am the equal and opposite reaction!" -Unknowntyper-

Re: Raymond Burr?

Perry Mason was a lawyer, not a P.I. he never used a gun.

The only level the joke made sense on was the Arron Burr name confusion, even then its a pretty left field joke.

But then again, this movie wasn't very good or funny.
