Tekken : Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

Hi,

I have not played all the Tekken Games but I had played Tekken 3 and saw Tekken 5 once.

All of my friends praise the player Paul. I have played with it and it looks like one of the main players in the game.

Why in this movie they left him out? Isn't Paul a main character in the game series?

I don't have much of knowledge about this game in details. SO kindly clarify about Paul. He was one of my favourite players in Tekken 3.

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

I was hoping to see him too and Xiao.

Paul's special punch is a guaranteed win but on the movie I think he'd need to do a lot more than that, because it wasn't a game.

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

Unless he hit them in the sternum. That could drop somebody; especially if he fractured their chest plate.

No Sparkling Wiggles here!

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

I heard a while back that Ron Perlman was playing Paul, maybe something happened at the last minute?

And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

Actually, the didn't leave him out. If you click on the TRIVIA page here on IMDB, you'll see that they mentioned Paul Phoenix:

"Although Paul Phoenix (one of notable TEKKEN character that appeared in the entire games) isn't in the movie, his name is mentioned in this movie by Tekken sport-caster, where he got knocked out by Marshall Law in 28 seconds. "

Btw, I thought that bar-guy looked a lot like Paul, since his pal from the game (both Laws) owned restaurants. The bar guy was given way to many shots. If he wasn't Paul, he should've been (though no die-hard fan of the game will agree with me).

Actually Paul was in a few of the earlier drafts of the script and this guy was going to play him until script changes: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2580123136/nm0576015

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

I agree with you nave_miller! I'm not saying that the bar guy was the perfect actor for Paul, but they could have included actual Tekken characters over random made-up ones.

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

While Paul is a great character to play as, his actual story is fairly non existent - hes fights in a tournament pretty much for its own sake, given the need to deliver a tournament with some real meaning there isn't alot of scope for him to have any major role - it would have been nice to see him in the background but then you'd get some anal fans grumbling 'this stinks Paul got beat by XXXX, XXXX is a lame character who would never stand....etc etc'. Thats not to say you can't see the psirit of his character in there however.

The choice of characters is a little odd but if you amagamate some you begin to see why they did what they did....ie Christie isn't simply Christie at all but rather an amalgum of Christie/Ling/Asuka/Julia all rolled into one, Steve Fox isn't Steve Fox but rather Baek, Hworang, Paul Pheonix etc etc.

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

Even though, he didn't appear, it's mentioned that Marshall Law defeated him in 28 seconds. I play Tekken 6 often and Paul is one of the toughest characters to beat, not taking anything away from Law who is awesome as well. So, the filmmakers basically disrespected Paul's character without him even appearing in the movie. Paul is definitely an important character in my book.

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

I think Steve Fox got it worse by being a non-fighter manager. What? Just don't even bother including him in the movie.

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

Yeah that sucks he was not in the game

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

In the Tekken franchise, Paul was always a top shelf character if not the outright best in the game. A throwaway line where he loses in 28 seconds is ridiculous to those who played the game.

Looking over the credits, I see no mention of King either. That one really pisses me off. He was my favorite character to play, along with Nina.

Re: Why there is no Paul Phoenix in the movie?

No King,Paul,Lei,Hwoarang,Michelle Chang,Jack(Jakbots in the movie don't count) or Xiaoyu

I also wanted to see Craig Marduk because there rumors Nathan Jones was gonna play him
