Tekken : Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

Why did they change her fighting style from capoeria to... that other thing. And why did they make it so there is zero interaction between her and Eddy in the film?

Did the film makers even play the damn game?

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

I think her fighting style was supposed to be MMA. But, I could be wrong. Also, they prob. didn't want two diff. ppl having the same unique fight style as capoeria.

Cassidy-OhMyGod, It's Megan!(her dead corpse in the shower.)
Jessica-Oh God, she looks terrible.

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

The answer to the whole problem is no: the film makers obviously didn't play the game.

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

what makes you think people on this board can aswer that for you?

the amount of silly questions on this website "why this" and "why that"

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

You're post is even more useless than how you make the OP's seem.

This is the imdb message board for the movie in question. If anywhere, it would be HERE to ask these kinds of questions for discussion. I'm assuming you prefer the typical nonsensical and mindless ranting that plagues these boards as it seems you like to post nothing more than comments that rile people up. Seriously man, this place is for discussion. If you don't want to contribute then you can either not waste your time making useless posts, or go back to the 'this movie sucks' or 'no it doesn't, this movie rocks' topics and debate with them.

Having said that, the actress who played Christie, Kelly Overton, I'm assuming had no martial arts experience, much less capoeira experience, prior to filming this movie. I'm pretty sure she was only cast because the casters thought they needed some white chick to flirt the half-white Jin throughout the movie. And I guess the whole omission of many other popular fighters in the movie that I've seen others complain about leads me to believe that the script writers really didn't give a damn about any interaction between Christie and Eddie.

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

you clearly havnt sene my post history if you think i post things to rile people up

and bitching isnt really discussing i like to discuss movies but to ask something with a WTF isnt a question its a moan

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

I couldn't care less about what else you've posted quite frankly. From the two posts I've read so far it seems you've done nothing but to annoy me and to poorly defend yourself with profanity of your own. Who's 'bitching'? Who's 'moaning'? The OP asked a legitimate question that even I asked myself while watching the movie. But you were so deterred by his topic title, you felt it was alright to come into the topic, post a comment that wasn't conducive to the thread in any way, and even got me to post, which if you've seen MY post history I don't do often.

If you want to discuss, then do it. But if you find yourself annoyed by something like a "Wtf?" in a title, then don't enter it if you have no intent other than to instigate an argument.

I'll admit that my posting is only perpetuating this dispute, but damn man, don't even bother posting in topics like these if you think it's just bitching and moaning, because I actually came into here to post my opinion on Christie's fighting style since it clearly was not capoeira. And as I implied in my first post, her character could have been any female fighter as her back story and connection to the actual plot was so thin.

Go ahead and defend yourself again if you feel you need to. But it only proves to me that you not only want to discuss movies as you claim to do (which I'm down for; I already gave my two cents on the OP's question... and not the manner of his topic title), but you also like to fuel childish arguments such as the one you started. But what can I expect, it's the Internet.

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

Eddy and Christie have no relation in the film. If you listened, you'd have noticed that they changed her story to that her grandfather taught her to fight rather than Eddy.

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

The stupid film is NON-CANON.
There was only 2% of tekken in this movie, and thats in eddy's outfit and Jin's arm gauntlets lol, the rest is just not recognisable. No "lightning screw uppercut" either so dont get excited lol.

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

Seems like the film makers wanted a female character that was based on Gina Carano.
The resemblance is obvious: attractive, brunette, practices MMA, feisty attitude etc. The actress even looks a little bit like Gina.

However instead of just creating a brand new character for the movie, the filmakers thought they were being clever (and lazy) by taking a currently existing Tekken character like Christie and completely changing her background from being a Capoeira practitioner with connections to Eddy Gordo into a fictionalised Gina Carano character who practices mma and being Jin's love interest.

Seriously, it isn't just Christie, Alot of other Tekken chars in this movie are nothing like their video game versions.
Law in this movie is a cage fighter, Steve Fox is a retired former Tekken fighter (no connection go Nina), Heihachi is a good guy etc.

The filmakers even combined the Tekken force soldiers and called them "jacks". Even though Tekken Force and Jacks are two completely different things.

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

well it would be pretty silly to have two Capoeira fighters in one tournament. they wanted diversity in the fighting styles. and since Christy was a bigger acting role than a fighting one, they kept Eddie with the Capoeira and gave Christy MMA instead.

I cheated and I lied and I left the cap off the toothpaste!

That's very true actually.
Also Capoeira is a very difficult style to train and teach in a way that someone can be skilled at it in a short amount of time and make themselves look impressive on screen.
You need years of dedicated training for that, and even after years of training, not everyone can be as proficient or look as good at it as Lateef who is a highly trained Capoeira practitioner.

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

Are there any real female Capoeria fighter out there?

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

Well they also changed Marshall Law to a heavy brawler and Jin to Bruce Lee (extreme opposite of the game series). I stopped watching after they turned Heihachi into a good guy. Never finished the movie. I'm *beep* sick of this Hollywood crap where you have to please everyone and end up pleasing no one.

I don't mind altering the story or the characters, but this movie just made me sick to my stomach. The movie was an insult.

Re: Christie's fighting style… Wtf?

Yeah Lateef Crowder is in many movies but always as a random fighter with capoeira and never say more than a line or 2. The guy is a stunt man, not an actor. I guess here they wanted him for entertainement purpose and tough he would do it as Eddie considering there style being the same. But Christy was designed to be an acting role.

Its true she looks very Gina Carrano in this...

Alice is the worst character of all time, she need to die in the last movie. Chris/Jill are RE !!!
