Classic TV: The 00s : Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

I will say in the early 00s everything seem cool it still had that 90s feel. Music was great still, TV, and etc. I'm fine with change I don't mind it I know it was a new decade but it seem like after about 2004 it started to seem there was to much change. Especially with technology I mean everytime I turn around there was this phone that was popular and then the next year that phone was out and this phone was in. I just thought it got to ridiculous. Its like CDs took the backseat and now its all about i-tunes, and etc.

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

I thought the 2000's were a nice decade for music videos. Not music, but music VIDEOS. Music videos in the 2000's were mostly awesome! These are the best music videos from that decade:

Britney Spears- "Oops! I Did It Again"***, "Stronger", "Lucky" (the best Britney video ever!), "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know", "I'm A Slave 4 U", "Toxic" and "Everytime"***

Christina Aguilera- "Come on Over", "Dirrty", "Fighter"***, "Candyman", and "Hurt"***

The White Stripes- "Fell In Love With A Girl"***, "The Hardest Button to Button"*** and "Conquest"

The Smashing Pumpkins- "Try, Try, Try"***

The Gorillaz- "Feel Good Inc."***

Evanescence- "Going Under", "Call Me When You're Sober", that one video where Amy Lee is a Japanese girl in a commercial and "Bring Me To Life"

OK Go- "Here It Goes Again"*** (one of the most iconic videos of the 21st Century"

Madonna- "Music"***, "What It Feels Like For A Girl"***, "Die Another Day" and "Hung Up"

Pink- "Just Like A Pill" and "Stupid Girls"

No Doubt- "It's My Life"***, "Bathwater" and "Simple Kind Of Life"

Beck- "Girl"***

Bjork- "Cocoon"***

Jennifer Lopez- I forgot the name of the song, but the video is modeled after the movie "Flashdance"

Blondie- "Good Boys"

Geri Halliwell- "It's Raining Men"

t.A.t.U.- "All The Things She Said"

Green Day- "Jesus of Suburbia"***

The Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Dani Califorina"***, "Can't Stop" and "Californication" (did this video come out in 1999 or 2000?)

Gwen Stefani- "What You Waiting For?", "Hollaback Girl"***, "Rich Girl", "Luxurious", "Cool", "The Sweet Escape" and "Wind It Up"

Beyonce- "Baby Boy", "Naughty Girl" and "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"

Daft Punk- "Crescendolls"***

Missy Elliott- "Work It"***, "Lose Control", and "Get Ur Freak On"

Eminem- "The Real Slim Shady", "The Way I Am", "Without Me" and "Mockingbird"

Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya and Pink- "Lady Marmalade"

Outkast- "Hey Ya!"***

Marilyn Manson- "Tainted Love", "The Fight Song", "Heart Shaped Glasses" and "Disposable Teens"

***= Must see. Absolutely incredible.

I'm sure there's other great videos from the 00's that aren't on this list, but this is all the videos from the 2000's decade that I like.

While the music videos during the 2000's weren't as good as the videos from the 90's, it did spawn a lot of great videos. In fact, two of my favorite music videos of all time came from the 2000's: Smashing Pumpkins' "Try, Try, Try" (which is my favorite music video of all time) and Christina Aguilera's "Fighter".

Some of these songs are good ("Fell in Love With A Girl", "Fighter"), some of these songs are horrible ("Clumsy", "The Fight Song", "Lucky", "Jesus of Suburbia", "Die Another Day"), but they all have great music videos.

Some time ago, somebody on a message board asked "Is it me or are music videos in the 2010's great?" and he listed some music videos from the 2010's he liked. One person answered him back and said "Music videos from the 2000's were horrible!". I wanted to post to this guy back, saying how I think most music videos from the 00's are great and I wanted to list the videos to him.

Do people hate the 00's so much that they have to trash EVERYTHING made during that decade? Yes, the 2000's were mostly horrible, but not everything was THAT bad. What's next, people are going to say the 2000's were the worst decade for pets? "Waaaahh, waaaaaaah, I miss the 90's because back then cats and dogs were much nicer and cuter and in the 2000's dogs and cats were meaner." I'm waiting for that moment when someone says that.

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

Wow thanks for your feedback and your right. I didn't think about the music videos. I agree I remember most of those videos on your list from the 00s the Jennifer Lopez video you thinking of is "I'm glad" I like that video also she did pull off the Flashdance look.

I agree with OK Go that was different I like how they were on the treadmill that was very different

Christina had some amazing videos in the early 00s as well

Alicia Keys I think you forgot her I love her video "fallin".

Janet Jackson had a few good videos from the early 00s like "all for you", "son of a gun"

I agree about Missy Elliot 100% behind Michael Jackson she was like a genius when it came to music videos.

Eminem "stan" has to be one of my most favorite music videos from the early 00s that was like watching a movie and had me on the edge of my seat.

I think what it is, is that they had some great music video directors ones that took the time to come up with a creative but yet watchable video. Unlike today there are a few from the past few years that I like Chris Brown had a couple that I liked and singer Ciara.

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

Some other great music videos from the 2000's I forgot to mention:

Madonna- "Don't Tell Me"

Bowling For Soup- "1985"

Fountains of Wayne- "Stacy's Mom"

Kylie Minogue- "Can't Get You Out of My Head", "Come Into My World" and "Spinning Around"

The Black Eyed Peas- "Don't Phunk With My Heart"

The Pussycat Dolls- "Buttons"

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

People weren't so obsessed with technology or reliant on it.

dislike:
high school years, bush, the economy, 9/11, 2007

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

The '00s changed a lot for me from the start of the decade to the end of it, but to be fair I think that's because I basically grew up in that decade..from 8 to 18 years old. My worldview changed a lot over the years because I got older and those were kind of like my "coming of age" years (not to say that I won't say the same thing about this current decade when it's all over).

I loved the early 2000s...from 2000-2004. Music was still technically good for me, I started appreciating movies more, and I understood the pop culture references a little better. I still loved all of the stuff from the '90s at that time, too. It still felt like the '90s. Technology had changed somewhat - DVD players, mp3 players, etc. A lot of people still bought CDs.

I love and hate different things about different years, but I can't stand 95% of what's on the radio and TV today. I don't mind a lot of the movies and the newly released books are ok. Never was much into video games...I lost interest in about 2006 or 2007.

I still buy CDs and even vinyl records. Vinyl records weren't really a thing my generation bought when I was growing up, but now it's actually a cool thing to do. I still use iTunes, Netflix, etc.

I know this argument is so overused, but I think there's still a lot of truth to it - most kids today (born in 2000 or later) don't go outside for fun and instead stay inside and play video games, watch TV, and so on. Even when I was growing up--and I'm a part of generation lazy--I spent pretty much all of my time outside with my neighborhood friends and we wouldn't go inside until it was dark. We didn't have cell phones, iPads, and 300+ channels. My brother and I didn't get a video game system until 2004, and even then we had maybe 4 or 5 games that we played once or twice a week for less than an hour. We had computer games, but they were educational--remember Reader Rabbit? I'm not trying to sound superior, but I think it's ridiculous that kids nowadays spend the majority of their time indoors staring at screens.

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

Early 2000s was still based largely on physical media. Even VHS was still around though declining rapidly. As you said, CDs were still mainstream (and not dead yet! I still buy the occasional CD. I prefer having a physical copy).

Have you played Atari today?

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

Contrary to popular belief, the year 2000 was not so terrible...it wasn't a great year or even a good year, in fact it was barely mediocre....but compared to what followed! Maybe the 2000s wasn't as bad as the 1940s or 1910s, but it was close. At least the 1930s had nice fashions, music and architecture.

Early 2000s did have some nice documentaries, pleasant video games (though they haven't aged as well as 1980s games), car styling wasn't so bad, and at least Michael Jackson was still alive! Not much else though.

2005 was probably the worst year of the decade. It was simply a year without any redeeming features. It started off horrible and managed to get even worse. But years ending in "5" usually aren't very good, as 1945, 1965 and 1995 weren't so good either (though all three were EXCELLENT for music). Not sure why this number has such a bad track record, probably just some strange coincidence. The rest of the 2000s was also horrible.

But that said, I am looking forward to the 2020s. With the 2000s and 2010s being so utterly unattractive, the 2020s simply has to be an improvement.

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

@CKMaks....I love your post and that last paragraph was so true. I remember as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s going outside with my friends in the neighborhood. I remember my mom telling me make sure I'm home before the street lights were on. Such great times.

@Jeice...I hate to think about 2020, because from 2000 all the way to now went by so quick. I do hope 2020 aore before then gets better especially with music.

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

The 2000s decade was good until 9/11. That was the unofficial "end" of the 1990s.

agreed.

Nice 2 laugh, but don't be the joke.👎

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

The main thing I liked about the Noughties were the advancements in technology accomplised during the course of that decade.

In our household, we went from having no computer or Internet in 2000 to having a desktop and several laptops with wifi Internet access by the end of 2009.

DVD supplanted VHS and digital TV overtook terrestrial, giving us way more channels to choose from and tons of additional features.

On the down side, I wasn't a kid anymore and adult life wasn't always that easy.

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

I can agree about 9/11 if it wasn't for that day I'm sure it would have still felt like the 90s will some changes here and there.

Dark I can agree about your last comment someday I do wish I was a kid again.

Re: Name some things you do or don't like about the 00s.

Some likes:
Nintendo
Sega was still good despite the failure of the Dreamcast (their games released for Nintendo's handhelds during the 2000s were top-class material)
Archival material on the Internet (it was such a novelty seeing Chevrolet advertisements from the 1930s and hearing Edison recordings from the 1910s)
I realise IMDb was around prior to the 2000s, but it was a novelty to randomly look up words like "apple" and "bananas" and see what fascinating-sounding obscure titles came up. It just seemed novel.
Early 2000s Nickelodeon. It wasn't as good as 1990s Nickelodeon, but it was OK.

Some dislikes:
Every politician
Every country
Nepal becoming a republic (I'm a monarchist)
The buildings, but really, every decade starting with the 1960s has sucked for buildings.
IMDb's forums, particularly the Sandbox and Soapbox ("Uncreative_Name", anyone?)
The cars (early 2000s wasn't so bad for cars though)
The fashion (early 2000s wasn't so bad for fashion though...but it wasn't so good, either)
Technology. As someone mentioned, products become obsolete too quickly.
Sequels, sequels to sequels, prequels to sequels, sequels to prequels, prequels to prequels, spin-offs of sequels, prequels to spin-offs of sequels, spin-offs of prequels to spin-offs of sequels, reboots, sequels to reboots, prequels to reboots, sequels to prequels to reboots, reboots of reboots, sequels to reboots of reboots...geez, where does it end?
Terrorism
More terrorism
Paris Hilton
Jeremy Clarkson
Sequels to prequels of reboots featuring stories about terrorism
Shakycam
Sequels to prequels to reboots featuring stories about terrorism that were shot using shakycam
