BTW, those "handouts" you're talking about, like welfare,SSI,WICthose barely make up 1% of the entire national budget. And we as taxpayers pay for it with our taxesthe bottom line being that at some point in our lives we're going to need to use any one of them to stay on our feet when becoming unemployed,or not being able to find a jobbelieve me, I know from experience. Moron - maybe they read the description and knew all the stories behind the movie already. It's more like episodes of the history channel than a movie. If you don't know these stories then it's a failure of the education system which only teaches kids how to pass a test so they get their money grants. In past days teachers taught you how to think and solve for yourself not just remember their liberal promoted story. So with cell phones and social media they are just making the population more stupid when the better information access could make the people smarter.

And it's another movie people like you are supposed to hate without even watching it.

This is hardly even qualified to be a documentary. It's a horribly slanted, rather bizarre rant for the most part. Of note: a contrast of old Hollywood musicals with the race relations of the time makes very little sense. Since when MUST entertainment focus on being as dour as aspects of reality? The film companies wanted to fill theater seats, not drive people away. Movies are mainly escapism, not soapboxes or propaganda vehicles unless you're in communist countries, that is. And those sorts of films are garbage people go watch out of fear, nor desire.

I guess this thread pretty much sums up why IMDB is dumping the message boards.

This movie is so much more than that. It's a pity you stop at "like it" and "right side of the political issue." I think it's not a matter of whether we're supposed to "like" this movie. Just pay attention to it. Examine our own minds, feelings, and behaviors about its content. Acknowledge that "freedom", "rights", and "privilege" aren't only for white Americans. If we're willing to take a good long, difficult look at ourselves, as James Baldwin talks about at the end of the film, take accountability for how we impact each other and the world around us, and vow to make this world a better and equal place for all who live here, then there's a chance our American ideals could actually mean something. As he also so astutely points out: "There is no 'white America.' There never was a 'white America.' The world is not and has never been a 'white world'." The question is, are we willing to live in a world where we share its many resources, and are we willing to share power in our societies? If not, we will surely destroy our only home, and many other species who live here. Look around you. Really. Honestly. Suspend your fears for just an hour (and, don't pretend you don't have fears). Think about what you love (not just what you want, but what you hold truly dear), and consider that everyone deserves to have goodness in their lives. To have food, shelter, love, and at least some security. Be willing to be uncomfortable in looking at yourself and the world in which we live. But don't for one second believe the makers of this film or even James Baldwin, if he were still alive expect you to "like" it.
