In the Land of Women : How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

This movie is so terribly pretentious. It tries so hard to rip off "The Graduate" with that whole hooking up with the mom and then having her say that he isn't good enough for the daughter. Then there's the pseudo-existentialist babble that Adam Brody spews out throughout this entire movie: he thinks he's so jaded because he got dumped. The writing his terrible, the dialog serves no purpose but to show that he's been 'thinking about life.' How can anyone seriously like this movie?

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

yea i just watched this movie, there was absolutely no point, nothing happened.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

I found it pretty ordinary. Nothing really happened other than everyone feeling somewhat better/clearer about their situations. But then again what can you expect from this type of movie? The majority of people out there don't lead extraordinary lives.

"Then there's the pseudo-existentialist babble that Adam Brody spews out throughout this entire movie: he thinks he's so jaded because he got dumped."

HAHAHAHA

It's so true, but I still love it because I am the same way (in terms of crying over things that aren't so vastly important in the big picture sense). For that reason I love this movie

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

I liked it !!! I think it just deals wit life and stuff alot of people go thru everyday ! Most people can relate to their situations!

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

I liked it. If a famous model dumped me I'd be pretty gutted too! It's not as if he was whining all the time, he did alot of listening to other peoples problems. It helps to talk.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

I like it very much. I dont think they wanted to copy another movie. Its just a simple story that happens to ordinary people. No digital effects, no suspense, no predictable twists, no serial killers, no zombies. It imitates real life, just as it happens. Acting is good, great cast. I knew Adam Brody doing comedy, but he proved he can do drama as well. Meg Ryan and Olympia Dukakis are awesome, too. Seriously, I dont see any reason for not liking this movie. LOL

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

I just watched this last night and I average about 50 movies a month and this movie was flat and didn't gel. First off I think Adam Brody was a poor choice for this character. I never got the feeling that he was the character he was suppose to be. And anyone who says this movie wasn't predictable wasn't paying attention. I knew what was going to happen 20 minutes in the film. I had high hopes for this movie when I saw the preview and was greatly disappointed. Anyone who says this movie is great has not watched any great films. We don't need special effects, zombies or what not for a good movie but good acting and writing are key and this movie didn't have either. In 5 years no one will remember that this movie even existed.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

Someone really enjoyed this movie and if ur not agree just drop it ! I loved it and it doesn't mean that I havn't seen GREAT movies in my life. It's been made 10000 of movies wich been out for sale in one-two weeks and then people just forget them and the stores doesn't sell them anymore, that my friend are BAD movies ! How can you say that the acting wasn't good?! O_O It wasn't the best, but it was deff over
the average for sure

(Adam Brody was prob the first choice because he's hot, and well he's good too)

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

Just seeing the preview for this movie made me not want to see it. It looks like typical Hollywood crap, full of clichs and predictability. Plus, I find Adam Brody completely overrated and somewhat annoying. For some reason he reminds me of a frog.

Formerly "FetusDeath", "InfantDeath"

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

It was a mediocre film. In no way was it one that I want to watch over and over but its still one I'm glad I saw. It was an interesting movie but not a great one. It seemed to try a little too hard to be realistic but then just ended up having a predictable ending.

it should take you exactly 4 seconds to cross to that door, I'll give you 2

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

I liked it. That's life nothing more, nothing less.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

These kind of movies almost never focus on anything extraordinary, and quite often the romance subplots (If there are any) never succeeed. It's was just about a interesting point in someone's life that led them down a different way of thinking that changed their life in some way (Everyone has moments like these and they're usually quiet and uninteresting to people who don't relate). There was nothing really wrong with the way this movie was written.

On the OTHER HAND this movie wasn't advertised as a coming of age story, it was advertised as a romance, and for that, I think it's a big load of crap. I respect coming of age stories, I just don't like them, at all and many people will probably agree with me when I saw there was a BIG difference between what this movie looked like it was about in it's promos, and what it was actually about.

I've only ever liked two coming of age stories and this sure as hell isn't one of them and I HATE that I got tricked into watching it (I've said this on like three different threads now, probably shoul stop now). That'll teach me to start reading comments on IMDB before I actually commit to buying (or even watching) a movie.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

i thought this film would be great after watching the trailer.
but in the end, it was very average and not particularly original.
i felt like i was watching garden state but in a slightly different context.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

i totally agree. when i saw the trailor, i was like, oh, cute, a romantic comedy w. adam brody. i was sooo wrong. i didnt like this movie at all, the acting was fine, the plot line, however, was awful

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

I wasn't expecting a romance. I was expected a coming of age story, which is ultimately what I received. This movie wasn't advertised at all in Australia, so I wasn't mislead by the trailers. I saw it purely because I like the actors. And yes, I do enjoy Adam's babbling. He is witty and I get along with people like him.

I guess if people were expecting a romance, then they would be disappointed. Maybe you should watch it in a years time, perhaps you will feel differently. It is a movie that many can relate too. That's what makes it so good. I can totally relate to each character. The young girl, the mother and Carter. This film is about life, nothing more, nothing less. Many coming of age stories depict the average person's life as so traumatic and tragic- abuse, molestation, death, promiscuity etc. I cannot relate to these things. In the Land of Women portrays everyday life. What may seem trivial to some, seems epic to another.

I liked it. A lot.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

I think Adam is very good looking.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

This movie was playing at a friens house an I guess I ha nothing better to do so I gave I a watch. its no the kind of movie I woul normally care for anyway. just the fact that Kristen stewart and that annoying kid from the OC was in it made me not like it, but I stuck in when I saw the mom from Moonstruck as the grandma. she was seriously the only good thing about it. what a waste. I absolutely wanted to slug everyone in this movie. all the guys were stringbeans and everyone talked like typical teenage losers. Kristen stewart was the worst. "likeuuuuhare wi..like goin aught? like..dudehaw do you kiss a guy fer reaul?" holy sh** i wanted to smack her stupid "i cant act for sh**" ass acoss the lawn! i felt really bad for the grandma, no one seemed to car much for her including carter. i would been with my grandma ALL THE TIME not tryin to hit it up with some stupid chicks next door. and did meg ryan really think it was gonna work wih this 20 something guy when shes 40 something? please. the sterile enviroments were weird too. the main character, the "hero", writes porn scripts. and even weirder, his mom was ok with it?? CREEPY. nope, didn't like it.

Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

LOL! Pretentious is EXACTLY the right word! A character named "Paige Hardwicke"??? HardwickEEEE?

The stuck up slut starlet who treats the guy like a gay confidante?

Actually EVERYBODY treats him like a gay confidante?

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

I did not like it at all. The trailer promised a completely different movie. This was twisted and pretentious. It tried to be deeper than what it really was.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

Yeah, the acting was mediocre. I have to say, this might have been a good movie if the cast had been different. The relationships felt forced (the only flowing relationship I saw here was Dukakis and Brody, tbh). Brody tries to sell his charm, but falls short in dead waters. Meg Ryan seems to be pushing the illness and her unhappy home life, making it feel entirely unbelievable. The youngest daughter is annoying, but believably so (as any little sister, truly, should be). And last, but not least, we have Kristen Stewart. As per usual, she isn't actually playing her role. Instead, she's playing HERSELF. And even then, she can't be convincing as a teenager. Go figure.

Three years ago, I was in love with this movie. Now, three years later, I find it appalling that I was ever really that interested in it. I think Olympia Dukakis is the only reason I enjoyed this movie at all. And people are welcome to their opinions. I'm glad those of you who liked it enjoyed it so much. I just didn't find it that interesting when I finally got around to watching it again.

"The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Be brave. Live. For me."

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

Just watched this one again. Absolutely loved it. 10/10. Look up how to spell Hardwicke. And refrain from using the word "slut" as a epithet. Thanks.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

Never seen a movie where a character was of so low self esteem and mind who hangs out and shares her pathetic problems with a boy who's himself a loser. Can u imagine a 50+ lady walking her dog out as an excuse to share her mid life crisis with a boy who wears a coat to accompany her n pretend to be more mature than his years.

Re: How can anyone like this movie?!?!?!?

Such movies give ideas to ppl who actually end up believing in such scenarios of moving houses n befriending your next door neighbors as the most likely thing to happen in people's life. Such BS ends up inspiring ppl who take it seriously which is what some youngsters do before making a fool of themselves
