This Is Us : Would any This Is Us fans recommend the series Parenthood?

I remember seeing the show Parenthood advertised on NBC when it was first on but never got around to watching it. The promos for This Is Us even remind me of ones they used to run for Parenthood (which was also on NBC). Are there any similarities between the two shows? If I like This Is Us, is it possible I'll like Parenthood, too? I was thinking of picking it up on DVD to get through these repeat weeks and the summer break, but wasn't sure if it was similar/good or not. Also, did it have a proper, satisfying ending?

Parenthood was very good. While each of us has our favorite and least favorite characters causing much disagreement, overall the show was well done and the ending was excellent.

After I started watching This Is Us, I started watching Parenthood on Netflix. I never saw it the first time around, and I got into serious binge-watching (which I rarely do). I loved Parenthood and think it's superior to This Is Us. Although I like This Is Us, Milo Ventimiglia is the big draw for me (I'm also a Gilmore Girls fan), and the characters just don't pull me in the way I was drawn in by the characters in Parenthood.

You'd probably really like Men of a Certain Age

Men of a Certain Age had potential but was never quite the show Parenthood was. MofaCA had its moments but overall its probably a 5 or 6 while Parenthood is a solid 9 or 10.

All three are different(like apples & oranges & broccoli). Men of a certain Age did have family in it, but it was more about the 3 guys). Parenthood & This Is Us are more closely related. But the telling of stories is very different.

Parenthood was a good series, definitely recommend it. I prefer This Is Us, but Parenthood is definitely worth the watch.

Yes, you should watch it and yes there are similarities. Parenthood is more straightforward and doesn't have the twists that TIU has, but it's a really good family drama with engaging characters. The ending is decent too.

I couldn't stand Parenthood but loved Men of a Certain Age.

"Parenthood" was a VERY well done show. I won't say which one I like best since I haven't had as much time with "This Is Us" to give a fair assessment. However, I think if you like "This Is Us," you'll like "Parenthood."

I watched the first couple of seasons of Parenthood very diligently and loved it. There are a lot of great characters and acting on that show. It's an incredible ensemble cast, both young and old. And some of the storylines are very good.

I've really enjoyed Parenthood. It's much, erm, noisier, but it has the same kind of compassion running through it.

Would absolutely recommend. Although it's got a similar 'theme' as this show, it's not the same. It's still a brilliant series, with a lot of emotion and some solid acting, but it's busier and deals with a range of issues in a more brutish way.


It does emote more feeling from you though and some of the situations are a lot mroe realistically portrayed (and so, more relatable) than they are in 'This is Us'.

Yes, they are very similar type shows. Highly recommend Parenthood for you.
