Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

So she's mad at Toby for not wanting the surgery but she herself won't get the gastric bypass surgery that could possibly save her life as well. Very interesting outlook Kate!

Re: Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

Why do you think she isn't having it? She was at the doctor's to find out more right before Christmas, then it was Christmas at which Toby had his heart attack. Just when was she supposed to rush right out for the procedure?

Re: Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

Recent pictures of the actress. She hasn't had the surgery and since the filming is already (or nearly) completed for the first season, it's fair to assume there is no gastric bypass surgery.

Re: Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

There's a wee bit of a difference between the characters on the series & real life. Scenario-this series is a hit-episodes have been written. However when they're written there's no guarantee that the series would be a hit. They were not going to write in the actual surgery this quickly. If anything it's something they could do for next season. But just because it's brought up on the show(which the character was still mulling over-she didn't say no), doesn't mean ultimately the character does it. This surgery is not a minor one. As for Toby-he's a character who has a heart condition. Sorry but that's just a little more of an immediate concern. Now if they had her character have an immediate condition then that would be different.

Re: Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

Gastric bypass is a very invasive surgery. It is risky and can cause extra stress on the heart. It can also be a quick fix. But Toby had a heart attack (not elective surgery)heart surgery is vs the other option which may be less risky, but less likely to correct the problem.

I saw this episode as maybe showing Kate her kind of surgery could cause a heart attack and kill her. Going the natural & healthier route may take longer, but would be more likely to stick

Re: Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

You sound like she has a personal responsibility to you to get gastric bypass surgery. Just how ego centric are you anyway?

Re: Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

You're an idiot.

Re: Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

You do realize that the surgery, although may save her life, is also a risky one.

And also, it's not a guarantee.

Many patients who have had the surgery don't stick to the proper eating habits to lose the weight. Or they lose the weight and go back to old habits only to gain it back.

Did you see Carnie Wilson? She went from 300 to 150 pounds, and now she's pretty much back to her old weight again, so don't think it's a life saving procedure.

And also, it's not cheap. Not everyone can plunk $15,000 for a procedure that could be fatal.

I know Chrissy has the money, but I'm sure she's looked into it, otherwise she probably would have had it done years ago.

Re: Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

True. But money isn't a factor, either for the character (Kevin would pay) or the actress.

Re: Kate's speech was very hypocritical..

I think the surgeries are different enough (and Kate's decision isn't final on the gastric bypass) to make Kate hypocritical for that. (I thought she was hypocritical for walking out on Toby when the weight loss group was celebrating his weight loss that's when he lapsed into overeating again.)

I do think Toby had a lot of pressure to do the surgery (from the Doctor (I can do NOW) and Kate) while he was still drugged from his Christmas surgery. I would've wanted to look at the details of all the options and made a more informed decision even if it was to have the surgery at a later date (or with a different surgeon maybe his own doctor)
