This Is Us : Question about the Pilot

Question about the Pilot

Kevin kept saying he was 7 years old and in 2nd grade when the Challenger exploded in January 1986. But it is established that the kids were born in 1980 or possibly even the end of 1979. If they were in 2nd grade in 1985-1986 then the kids should've been born around 1978.

Also I didn't think they could show nudity on prime time TV (aka Milo V's naked ass at the very beginning). Was anybody else caught off guard by that?

Re: Question about the Pilot

I was fine with it ?

Re: Question about the Pilot

That didn't really bother me. I think the writers were just aiming for a "where were you when?' event that would make a big impact on an elementary school student. That would pretty much be the one for the 80's.

And the backside nudity started years ago with David Caruso in NYPD Blue.

Re: Question about the Pilot

The nakedness was reserved for the 10pm slot and this show wasn't airing in that slot the first time I saw it.

I also don't get the big fuss over Milo. He isn't hot at all in my opinion.

Re: Question about the Pilot

Well, yeah, but that was 20 years ago. Things have apparently "progressed." Not saying I agree with it just that it has happened.

Re: Question about the Pilot

Or they could have been born in 1979. The Challenger explosion happened January 1986. In second grade you are usually 7 and turn 8 at some point in the school year. USUALLY. Anyway, he could have been 7 and turning 8 later in the school year. In the hospital at the time they were born people were wearing jackets so it could have been anywhere from February to maybe early May.

That being said, this is a show and the writers take certain liberties with the thought that we should suspend a little bit of reality for entertainment sake.

Re: Question about the Pilot

I feel like I'm in math class whenever I come to the board because of "The Challenger" question. No offense OP but this has come up so many times. I think it would be better just not to think too much about it.

Re: Question about the Pilot

I find this totally unimportant.
