Classic Film : Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

I can't decide...

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

well

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Natalie, by far. Madonna's hairy armpits were a turn off...

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Natalie Wood - by a long shot!

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

No contest. Natalie Wood - BY A COUNTRY MILE!

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Young Elizabeth Taylor was a beauty. Tuesday Weld and Faye Dunaway were beauties. They had gorgeous facial structure and features that were perfect, but somewhat unconventional, which gave them an aura of mystery--the sort of little added spice that makes, IMO, for true 'beauty'. Wood had a conventional cute face like the typical attractive high-schooler. Nothing wrong with that, but her features didn't have that tinge of the dramatic that hallmarks a really standout female face.

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

amyghost,

I have NEVER heard anyone describe Elizabeth Taylor's looks as unconventional in any way shape or form.

Most people thought of her as the ultimate perfect beauty (perhaps of all-time) in her prime.

Could you please explain to me what made her looks ('somewhat') unconventional. You are entitled to your own opinion but I was just wondering why you think this...

P.S. : If a poll was taken as to who is the most beautiful woman of all-time, she would probably win.

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Mainly because the answer to that was to be found in my first post.

I used the word 'unconventional' quite deliberately. Think about it. How many women have you seen, famous or otherwise, even 'beauties,' who at all resemble Taylor, Dunaway or Weld? Their beauty transcends its physical components so that, while there are women who can resemble them (and they've all had their imitators), none can look like them. This isn't true of Wood, and again that's not meant slightingly; it's simply that she lacked that added something that lifts these women out of the quotidian and into something extraordinary. Perfection of physical features alone doesn't create this aura, and it was that aura which Wood, while pretty and conventionally 'cute', lacked. Her face was attractive enough, but utterly missing that unique and strange quality that hallmarks true beauty.

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

amy, yes but I don't see how there was technically anything unconventional about Taylor's looks.

She had perfect eyes, nose, mouth, face shape, etc. I just don't see how there was anythiing offbeat about her face.

What features was it that made you think that about her?

I just am curious to know.

P.S. : What do you think of Marilyn Monroe's looks? Do you think she had anything unconventional about her?

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Most likely those famous eyes, which are certainly like no one else's. Actually, Liz's features otherwise were not especially standout--rather thin lips, a not perfectly modelled nose, bit of a double chin, etc. But again, there was something almost indefinable that illuminated those features, making them radiant. Perhaps I'm being a bit 'artistically' vague here and not communicating exactly what I intend too well--it does seem to be difficult to articulate precisely.

I feel that Monroe was actually a far prettier woman when not made up to the then-current standard. She would have benefited enormously from the more 'natural' look actresses would be allowed about twenty years hence. So yes--sans cosmetics I actually thought Marilyn quite striking, maybe even approaching beauty. When layered in makeup to conform to the Fifties type, less so; however there's not much doubt that she did possess that certain something that made her unique in much the same way as the women I've mentioned (as well as some others I can think of--Louise Brooks, for one).

What do you think of Madonna's looks?

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

She is not hideous, but there's nothing especially noteworthy about her looks, and particularly her pre-plastic surgery appearance.

That is one rambling complicated essay.
Wood was prettier than Dunaway and Weld. Yeah, it's all about "quotidian"

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

It's also all about subjectivity, and subjectively there's no way in hell you'd convince me that Wood was better-looking than either Dunaway or Weld.

And if you don't like 'rambling' or 'complicated', stay away from my posts and stick to something you'll find easier to understand, such as the OP's.

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

amyghost from the old board, is that you? Great to see you here!!

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

C'est moi! I'm the slow kid in the room when it comes to anything cyber, so it took me the better part of a donkey's years to figure out how to do that IMDb account sync thingus. But sheer boneheaded perseverance paid off, and now I'm here (I'll bet there are a few out there bwahahaha'ing over that), and I'll hang around until whatever future nuke takes down this site.

Thanks for the ahoy, matey! It's good to hear from a fellow lunatic, I hope we keep in touch!

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Ahoy, matey!! There are still a few of us old cfb'ers around these parts, just don't post as much as we should!

This site is perfect and we're trying to convince our pals on other sites to check this one out.

Will definitely be on a lot more, we'll chat soon!!

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

This site is perfect and we're trying to convince our pals on other sites to check this one out.

I'm hoping likewise, and checking my contact list to send some emails this weekend. Some 'faces' i haven't seen yet whom I'd love to have make this place home.

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

That would be great! Some of the more familiar faces have already starting posting here and on the other site!

Let's keep this place busy!

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

I've been keeping watch for them, and hoping to run across some of the most fondly recalled such as maddyclassicfilms, marshamae, clore and boomer baby (and that's leaving out a lot of others, too many to list here). So, like you, I want to get this place to be as close to the old experience as possible, minus the trolls and the inept I**b 'moderation'.

Let's keep on truckin' til we get there!

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Yes, let's do it! Trying to round up some of the gang from the v.2 board to also post on this board. I think marshamae posts on that board regularly but haven't seen the others. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they sign on as guests and simply lurk on the classic film board section.

I've kept in touch with a couple of posters you've mentioned but it'd be great if we could all get together again! It's really not that difficult, just have to convince them to sign up!

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Natalie Wood.

BTW, is there any evidence that David Essex was singing about her in "Rock On," because these lyrics make me think that he was:

"Still looking for that blue jean, baby queen
Prettiest girl I ever seen
See her shake on the movie screen, Jimmy Dean
James Dean"

"May the Force be with you."

Re: Who was more beautiful in their prime: Natalie Wood or Madonna?

Madonna wasn't a beauty, but neither was Wood--she was a very attractive, cute, pretty woman, but IMO not a 'beauty' ever.
