Riverdale : Why the aversion?
Re: Why the aversion?
Agree with everything you said! I always think shows are better when they represent reality and reality is diversity. I've never understood people and their hatred of anything not white (and I'm a white guy). They all seem to use the excuse that the producers are "ruining a classic" by not adhering to the origin of the characters races.
I have problems with that character because of the way she is portrayed and written. Josie is horribly written and the actress comes off bad (in the one scene where she acted like an uberdiva and refused to even look at Archie's lyrics.). In that scene I wanted someone to punch her.

Re: Why the aversion?
I didn't see anything wrong with that scene actually. That scene where Archie comes up and immediately thinks his lyrics are worth their time because he spent a summer writing them made me roll my eyes. Like who is he? Why do they need to drop what they're doing to cater to Archie. If they are indeed accepted as a real band why should Archie's lyrics even matter. Also, why can't Archie learn an instrument and create his own music?
Are the Pussycats meant to make time for him and his lyrics. I don't think so. It is funny that people bring that up yet don't give the Pussycats credit with Cheryl's request.

Re: Why the aversion?
To me, it seemed like he just wanted some input on whether they were any good or not, and went to the first people he knew in a band to ask for feedback. Then she was a complete bitch in return, for absolutely no reason. That isn't supposed to be Josie's personality, so of course people are going to have issues with it.
Re: Why the aversion?
While they're rehearsing wasn't the time. He interrupted them.
All he had to do was talk to Josie while she's alone. I think most people would be pissed if their group was interrupted so one selfish pretty boy who thinks everyone is obsessed with him can talk.
Archie in the first episode floated from female to female acting like God's gift. That's why he got that reaction. It had a purpose.
She was the only woman to talk to him that way and react that way. Everyone else gets weak in the knees as his very presence. Even some of the guys. It's vomit inducing.
I think we'll see why this scene was important in the future.

Re: Why the aversion?
You're both reading too much into that scene.
Josie's a diva but that scene was to show how popular the Pussycats were becoming and to drive Archie back to Miss Grundy for help with music.

Imagine if their places were switched and a black girl walked in on the rehearsal of three white guys and their leader talked to her that way. Would you still say there was nothing wrong with it? Archie hasn't acted selfish or conceited on this show; Josie has. The writers screwed her over by making her debut so negative.
Re: Why the aversion?
Are you implying Josie could be a lesbian?
BTW, Valerie seemed to be leering at him. Likely yet to be another victim of Archie's charm.

Re: Why the aversion?
I am so over a whole white cast all the time. They are boring, add nothing and frankly, are usually the most basic waste of time. Add in some colour and you get a different take on something making it much more interesting. You guys really need to get over it. You really do.
Love how you complain about people being bothered by Josie being black, then go on to make a negative race-based generalisation. Self awareness, thy name is not allofthegirls.
And Archie is making his own music. They've played two of his own demo songs already and he's taking music lessons with Grundy. Do you even watch the show?

Did I lie though. The show is already dragging despite having an interesting plot and what has been the focus? The white cast.
Re: Why the aversion?
I agree. Betty is the least interesting but has gotten featured twice. Jughead is terrible. And Archie running around like he's the most beautiful boy on the planet is nauseating.
All that said I think they're slowly building up to moving the other characters onto the screen. Those in the promo pic are main characters so that includes Josie who as of yet wasn't seen very much(hopefully not another Bonnie Bennett).
Since Robin Givens was cast as her mother I'm sure we'll see a lot more of Josie in the future. In the comics Kevin(I think that's his name I stopped reading way before he came a long) has a black endgame boyfriend so I'm sure in the show that will be happening.
I think they're just getting some of the original comic stuff out of the way and easing us into their new and very different story.

Re: Why the aversion?
I don't mind Josie being black. I mind her being a *beep* She acts as if she's Beyonce, or Something. But her covers suck and her voice is weak.

In your opinion. If Archie and Betty and Cheryl and their parents were all black/asian/latino would the show automatically interest you more? What have Josie and The Pussycats done so far that has been interesting, aside from singing two numbers for 30 seconds in the background?
Did I stumble onto tumblr by mistake?

Re: Why the aversion?
I have no problem with the show "adding color" but would like a reasonable explanation why they didn't utilize characters from the comic book to do so. As I've said numerous times, Chuck and Nancy already fit the bill and were actually part of the Archie series, unlike Josie which was a separate series. What was the point of changing the ethnicities of characters that are over 50 years old when it didn't have to be done?
Re: Why the aversion?
Those other characters weren't interesting and the writer wanted Josie and the Pussycats from the same universe.

Re: Why the aversion?
Huh? The characters are only as interesting as the show makes them. What the hell has Josie done the last two episodes except singing bad covers? I'm sorry but what makes you an expert on what's interesting or not?
Re: Why the aversion?
Well Josie and the Pussycats are definitely more well-known and the creators wanted them in. It's only been TWO episodes and it is an ENSEMBLE cast! Chill!

To whom? People who have absolutely no knowledge of the comics whatsoever?

Re: Why the aversion?
Is this a serious question?
Re: Why the aversion?
Yes. It is. I see they did include Chuck, although TPTB totally stripped him off everything that made him a good, upstanding guy. And even in that one episode he did more than Josie has in a month.
Re: Why the aversion?
Why do people have a problem with Josie being black?
Her appearance is SO ingrained into pop culture that it is obnoxious changing it whether it is because of pathetic pandering or frightened political correctness.
Like, how does it affect your day? Your life? The show?
Who said it did?
If you really think about it race has very little to do with the plot as well as the show as a whole.
We know that already.
Every time a POC is cast these boards get all up in their feelings as if there's some law against diversity.
Give me a break. I'M non-white and even I get annoyed by enforced, contrived diversity. Especially when it comes to iconic characters.
I am so over a whole white cast all the time.
That hasn't been true in a while. TV has been increasingly diverse for a few years now.

Good acting is good acting regardless of race.
You guys really need to get over it. You really do.
Just because we can't do anything about it and will just accept it, it doesn't mean we can't complain.

Re: Why the aversion?
I'm tired of liberal know it alls like the OP lecturing us and telling us we're all racist.
Titilating because A) Who is she?. And B) Do we even owe her and explanation regardless of the fact?
Also, I notice she calls white people boring alot. Well alot of black people together can be obnoxious.

Re: Why the aversion?
I don't mind that she is black, I don't like her because she is a bitch. Archie was asking for a little advice and the throws a ton of attitude back at him like she is a musical genius that cannot be bothered to associate with peasants like him.
Explain to me what part of that is supposed to make her likable or relate-able?

Because she's not white and therefore interesting by default because skin colour is all that matters when it comes to how engaging characters are, obvs.

LOL. You're a tad bit obsessed over the skin color of people. Might want to look in the mirror honey.

This literally makes no sense. Go to back to Tumblr.

Can't underline how happy I am these boards are going away.
