Riverdale : I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

is an insult. A true and utter insult along with a slap to the face to us REAL fans. Pop Tate was NEVER a African American and I read that the principal is a skinny African American?! I'm surprised they didn't cast any middle easterns in this bastardized version of Archie's Show. I've also read that someone has claimed that Archie Comic writers are in part of this, but I do not recognize any and I truly feel bad for the creator of this once great comic having to see his creation be turned into this piece of sheet. Seriously WTF and don't worry postersI have no inkling in watching this thanks to the trailer. It's gotten me so sick that I don't even know if I want to read the comics anymore.

Then go away. Some of us here actually like this show. You negative nancies really love to force your toxic opinions on everone else.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

A lot of us were excited to see Archie come to tv and we are looking for something positive to say.

but so far it's slim pickings. Very little if anything resembling the comic except the names.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

You'll always have the comics, though- that will never change. I'm all for people having their own opinion, but you wrote all of that and judging the show that hard based on the trailers? And it doesn't make sense to me that you're going to stop reading something you enjoy based on a trailer of a show you've never even seen? If you ever do decide to watch the show sometime, I hope you're pleasantly surprised and find a thing or two you like. I'm enjoying the show so far. :)

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

This show has nothing to do with the comic other then the characters names. Although, I think this darker angle is more interesting. I don't think making the show like the comics would translate and be interesting to todays audiences. I think its well acted and seems interesting so far,but if I start comparing it to the comic I start to get annoyed bc I hate when they make changes that don't need to be made. I like what the did with archie. They made him better looking and more interesting as a character. But Betty, Veronica,Jughead, and Josie & the Pussy cats are SO off! In everything too from what they look like to their personalities. Different doesn't have to be bad so hopefully the writers are able to make it work and it will get better as it goes since its only been 2 episodes. :)

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

Most of the characters from the comic books were created in the 1940s. This is 2017. It's a different world now. This show is not meant to be your grandparent's "Riverdale".

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

In doesn't matter that it was created in the 1940s! By and large the characters have maintained their appearance since each one was introduced. They've never changed their race or their ethnicity, their hair color or anything else. The direction TPTB have chosen to take the show is fine, but the casting they've chosen for some of these characters is not.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

I have to say it does bother me more and more that they made Pope Tate and Weatherbee black in the show. They've been white for decades so it's obviously a big departure. Also, latina Veronica and Asian Reggie feel weird as hell. I hate it when they do these things, it's like the writers and the casting people expect some kind of applause or gratitude with messing with decades of history and tradition, because it's the PC thing to do, to have more diversity these days.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

or show that they're not "racist" Muerte, which is basically the "PC thing" but you seem to get my rant. so a for you. [no I'm not being sarcastic]

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

Why does it matter what race Reggie, Pops, Weatherbee or Josie are? The show is just reflecting modern America.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

The comics have always reflected a "diverse" America, if that's what you meant by modern. There have been characters of ethnic and racial minorities as far back as the 60s and 70s. There was no need to throw a big middle fingers at longtime fans for no reason.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

I was not as upset about the race changes as I was the character changes. I was happy to see that in the second episode Reggie showed his snobby and mean tendencies, and loved that Jughead mentioned "MANY burgers and that it was someone else's treat.

It has nothing to do with "political correctness" and everything to do with human decency. I'm one of the least politically correct people you could ever meet, and I detest when racists and prejudice people try to hide behind the "politically correct" argument to justify their ignorance and hatred.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

This show is not named Archie and Friends Comics. This is Riverdale.

you re gonna need a bigger boat.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

That's the most non-relevant response ever.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

Get over yourself snowflake. Boo fing hoo. Cry us a river, it'll be nice to swin in it.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

I'm so happy that the IMDB forums are closing down, so you won't be able to post this nonsense anymore.

Yay!

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

It's an abundance of posts like this that are the reason these forums are shutting down. And why most people won't really miss them.

Re: I'm an Archie Comic Reader, but this…

Actually, I'd say intolerance of people's opinions that aren't in line with "political correctness" is the reason.
