Dark Night : Compelling images can't make up for nebulous structure

Compelling images can't make up for nebulous structure

Dark Night’s pseudo-documentary style frames the narrative as an inevitable disaster. The current political moment — in which men like Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, and Richard Spencer prove fascist evils aren’t bound to the past — makes the film’s cynical mosaic all the more discomfiting. In Sutton’s world, it’s not just that violence can happen anywhere, it’s that it will always happen everywhere. It is important to recognize how much history repeats itself, but to so callously assert that our roads will permanently lead to carnage just doesn’t feel useful at this point. http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/dark-night/
