Legion : Too old and not weird enough

Too old and not weird enough

I liked the show but my idea of Legion was that he was more of an angst ridden, weird, kind of autistic teenager. A bit haunted and uneasy and stuff.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

I agree, Dan is too old.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Now that I think of it, they never create a show that revolves around a child/young person. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is about the only one I can think of. She was supposed to be 14 or 15 at the start of the show. I'm sure SMG was 17 or 18 when she played her. The Magician is another one, I guess. The actor that pays the kid is pushing 30. Probably has something to do with "legalities", having under-age actors kiss, etc. As with everything in the Hollyweird/entertainment industry, it makes very little sense. But, they're Satanists so you can't expect sanity & logic either.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

If you want an adult audience, you won't be doing yourself any favours by choosing a child protagonist.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Not necessarily. I liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and knew other adults that did too. Isn't comic book stuff supposed to appeal to young people/kids? This genre doesn't seem to be segregated by age like Law & Order, or Matlock. You either like this kind of thing, or you don't no matter your age. Pretty cool, huh? ;p

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Don't you have to be at least 18 to head up a TV show as the lead? Look at Riverdale, they would have cast 16 and 17 years olds if it was allowed or was easy to do, but it's either not allowed or not easy. Hollywood is forced to hire older actors to play younger people, it's the law.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Hi cashmccall, Neil Patrick Harris was a teen when he portrayed Doogie Howser, M.D. but working with a child performer involves them emancipating themselves from the parents legally. An in-emancipated teen performer has shortened hours, on-set tutoring, social workers and chaperones.

I think Dan Stevens is ideal casting. He's a talented actor with an international following and I think he's great in the role.

> but working with a child performer involves them emancipating themselves from the parents legally.

This is not correct. Why do people just make stuff up and post it on the Internet as if it were fact?

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Hi neuromonkey, because it's true. SAG only allows an un-emancipated performer under a certain age to work limited hours because of child labor laws. There has to be a tutor or special school involved, a chaperon, and social worker. Emancipating themselves allows them to work them for longer hours. Of course, they have to be sixteen years or older and yes, they have to go through the courts.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

I think the reason is it costs more due to the amount of time minors can work on set & school/education requirements.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

That's a good point you and the other poster made. Hadn't thought of that. I love your avatar! Who's that lil' cutie? Is that your dog? He's SMILING like a little buddy. What breed of dog is he? I'm jealous. ;==9)B

ThanKS "she" Lexi is Pomerian& Chihuhua. She is an old lady nowshe was a pup in the photo. I hate they are shutting this board down.:o(

Re: Too old and not weird enough

I didnt mean they should have cast a kid. A 20 year old that looks 17 would be fine. But theyve made the choice to make the main character older and with that theyve changed what I think is an important aspect of the character and the story.
I think the show is nice and the lead actor plays very well, but I would have liked it better if it was more in line with the comics.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Is there a way of seeing this online somewhere? It does not seem to be available on neither netflix nor hbo.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

If you have comcast, it'll be on "on-demand". If not, check out FX network online. The usually have it to watch on their site. The CW does, too. A lot of networks do. They'll probably rerun it next week too.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Yeah I'm with you. I have mild criticisms of the show but mostly i just wish it more faithfully adapted the comic stories. But I am curious about the remaining 7 episodes! First one was quite great for me but yeah not really at all same thing as what happens in comic

So yeah, that's how I feel anyways

Re: Too old and not weird enough

I guess you don't remember the show "My Secret Identity"

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Wits not about any laws stopping producers from using kids. It's about aging and consistency in storyline. If a show is on for five seasons but it's a continuing story kids change to much year to year physically. If you start with a 14 year old by the time you get to season 4 he's 17 which is fine if the story is following that time line but if the end of each season picks up right where they left off it would look strange. People don't change physically as much if you start with a young looking 20 year old and it lasts 5 seasons.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

I guess that the disastrous bit of casting doesn't help. The Downton Abbey pretty boy is really not good enough to sell it.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

He was great in The Guest. He was totally transformed from DA.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Uhm he is a plenty good actor.

What a ridiculous thing to say, really.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Do you people who crave shows starring kids ever think about how your request comes off before you hit send? Like it's rather creepy to request a kid for "plot purposes".

No one was expecting this show to be remotely like the comic. If you were then you've never seen any of the X-Men movies.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Your post is creepy because you thought of it, the other posters did not. Very judgmental and paranoid of you.

Re: Too old and not weird enough

Riverdale is full of "younger" teenage types (25-40 years old) who are filthy perverts on each other.
