Legion : Syd Barrett? Really?…..
Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
I'm not following you friend, please explain the name for me
Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
Syd Barrett was an experimental musician and one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, although he was kicked out of the band early into it's emergence to the big scene. He was rumoured to be insane and was committed to a mental hospital at some point in the 1970's, presumably because of taking too much LSD. The song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was a tribute to him.
Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
and Dr. Kissinger is his therapist.
Not very creative. Not very imaginative.
Heavy handed? How about 90 minutes of BS so the audience can get the message that Legion Boy is a total douchebag mental defective super-trash hero.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
I would say it's the most creative and imaginative show I've seen on television, ever.
I'm trying to think of something more creative both in writing and in the cinematic execution (the cinematography, blocking and lighting in this was absolutely wonderful, better than in most movies) but I'm coming up blank. The best contender I can think is The Twilight Zone, but then it had the virtue of being different story-to-story. As a premiere episode goes, Legion was ridiculous good in all aspects, acting too, these actors were perfectly cast. It's such a great production.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
About 10 minutes in, when they said that nameSydney Barrett.I completely lost it. How fuing perfect. Particularly after introducing the pilot episode with Happy Jack and She's A Rainbow. Sixties British pop. And those astounding images.
Aubrey Plaza. From her first line, you know they cast exactly the right girl. No one like her. And that makeup on her. Great job.
They had me at "hello". I'm all in.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
exactly perfect casting. she's so perfect that it's beautiful. gosh, she's always seemed so off and so alternative thinking and acting and so unique and weird in everything I've seen her in so for her to play this part is perfect casting. this is the most extreme different that she has ever been and there's not an actress anywhere right now who could play this part as well as her.
she's weird, strange as can be, quirky in an unhinged way, and so lovely and entertaining to look at. I've never experienced a character like her character in anything before. this first episode is the best thing that I have seen on tv in years. and I've never seen anything like it in any medium ever before.
this show so far just is the very definition of amazing and weird and intriguing. it's so engrossing and captivating and dream like and enthralling. it actually more than once had me in a dream like, fantasy, altered state of consciousness, where my mind was transported to a fantasy, imaginary world and that felt so powerful, amazing, and great.
the main character was played perfectly by dan stevens. again, perfect casting. oh my gosh, he has so much wonderful range. he was a different person in the movie the guest. he's so realistic, believable, engaging, intriguing, and captivating to watch in the first episode.
the other main character, Sydney Barrett was played perfectly by the blonde girl actress. oh my gosh she was spellbinding and captivating, and engrossing. she was this ethereal being of odd wonderfulness and captivating splendor. she really inhabited and exhibited her character's oddness and craziness in a magical, metaphysical way. like she was this magical, an angelic goddess being that every guy fantasizes about and has to have. again, perfect casting.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
there's not an actress anywhere right now who could play this part as well as her.
Mia Wasikowska would also have been perfect in this role. bet they didn't choose her bc she'd cost more. they even look alike.
Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
but not as good as Aubrey plaza and there is a difference between perfect and the best and mia wouldn't have been the best at this role, she wouldn't have been as good as Aubrey. you can go for perfect but why not go for the best or the ultimate or the ideal choice?
Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
DUH. Aubrey Plaza plays the drug addict character who dies upon being absorbed into a wall and becomes one of Legion's multiple personalities.
Rachel Keller plays Syd, and quite well - although Mia Wasikowska would be easily as good or better. Very similar look and she's an old hand at surreal characters and environments. Please don't even bother responding if you really and truly don't know what you're talking about and can't even separate one actress from the other?
Never mind, smarter people on the other forum.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
I don't think Mia looks anything like Aubrey (who is and looks Latina). To be honest, I never understood the appeal of Mia. Her acting is okay but IMO not that memorable (I always compare her performance in 'Jane Eyre' unfavorably to Ruth Wilson's in the 2006 version). I'm not a huge fan of Aubrey's, but she's definitely unique and memorable and it works here.
Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
it's weird that you can't read and comprehend, since you can write and type. DUH x 10 for you.
this thread is about - and titled - Syd Barrett

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
Hate to break it to you, but NO ONE is more dumb, retarded and ignorant than you.

This is the most annoying post that I've ever read in my entire life.

I'm with ween-3. This was perfect. Clever and perfect.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
As soon as they said her name was Sydney Barrett I had the exact same reaction. Maybe they will work in some LSD angles so the obviousness is even more obvious.
I was waiting for Comfortably Numb to play the entire episode.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
Maybe they can throw in a Tim Leary character in a future episode.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
I think it's not totally a bad idea. The more people who learn who Syd Barret and the birth of Pink Floyd was, the better.
Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
This is intentional, given that he was institutionalized for mental illness.
Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
I think what they're trying to say is that Syd Barrett was never mentally ill, just like these mutants.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
His behavior became so odd even for one of the most psychedelic bands in history he was forced out of the band and moved in with his mother losing out on hundreds od millions of dollars.
That sounds like mental illness to me.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
that's just the rest of the world's negative spin against glamorizing behavior they can't understand without demeaning him in some way - is what this show is saying.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
Regarding the real Syd Barrett (the founder of Pink Floyd):
I've always thought that he had schizophrenia which manifested itself in early adulthood (as that disease tends to do). I don't think it was caused by taking LSD. I'm sure it didn't help him any, but I don't think it caused his mental illness.
A lot of young people were taking LSD back in that time and they didn't end up mentally ill. If you read interviews from people who knew Syd, they were unaware of him taking any unusual amounts of the drug. And some mentally ill people are predisposed to taking drugs, since they have a hard time dealing with reality, and their judgement is off. This is just conjecture on my part (and I'm certainly not saying LSD is harmless), but I think Syd was destined to be mentally ill, drug use or not.
Love his music, by the way.

Re: Syd Barrett? Really?…..
Just came across this info in the IMDB trivia section that explains the chharacters name choice a little.
The character of Syd Barrett who is played by Rachel Keller is named after Syd Barrett of the rock band Pink Floyd, whose music was an important influence on the series for Noah Hawley.
Hope its of interest RIP IMDB Forums

Thank you Captain Obvious. Would someone be merciful and put this board out of its misery?
Perhaps the OP just wants to reach out for some sense of community.
