Moonlight : Because of active haters, message board is shutting down! :(

I hate to admit this, but people who love to troll, insult, bash, swear are the ones that let this happen! I'm very sad to hear that it's shutting down, message board is my favorite section on IMDB.. :(

I feel that I'm losing a member of my family, without the message board, IMDB is nothing

Feel very dissapointed, even though I truly confess that the haters annoyed me the whole way through but all of the users, I mean everyone, indirectly taught me how to do better in sarcasm, jokes, antics, banter and I swear to God, you guys made my days cause I laugh so hard that once in a while, my stomach ache (a good thing).

I used to be weak at sarcasm when involving a debate with friends but since I have used this application for 2 years, it keeps getting better and better.

Hate to say this but goodbye users. Hope we can talk again after this.

Hollywood only wants positive comments on movies. Negative comments don't sell tickets. Free speech is dead.

When negative comments become excessive then IMDb has no choice. Just look at this board and tell me you can find more than 5 posts on the first page saying how great the movie is or any serious questions about it. The majority of every board is negative and is toxic to the website. Free speech is very much alive but when that right is abused then something has to be done.

LOL If its free speech, its free to be 'abusive' (chuckles).

It has nothing to do with selling tickets. People on here are horrible, not just this film, but everywhere on here. It used to be a nice place overall. And talk about silencing, watch Shut Up and Sing and see how the repukes try to bully their way into silencing people. THEY ARE THE WORST.

Hannity "we don't silence people, we don't do that" LOL watch how they destroyed the Dixie Chicks for one member speaking her mind. That was a no no to them. But let them say something like "if Obama wins then put me in jail" inferring he would kill him. That was okay with the republicans. Yep, they want the left to shut up, but they can speak all they want.

Movie forums are for movie talk, not racism, homophobia or sexism. IMDB is a private company and they have every right in the world to decide what subjects are appropriate to discuss on THEIR forums. If you want spread hate, then go to a hate-based forum and do it. Don't spill it out on other types of forums.

You never had a right to "free speech" on a message board owned by a private company. You are confusing the fact that the U.S. Government cannot abridge freedom of speech (a provision in an amendment to the U.S. Constitution) with the truth that private companies have no such mandate or compunction.

I'm so disappointed by this news. I loved to this site to speculate about upcoming films, current films etc.

Disappointing news but truth be told, having a meaningful discussion about movies has become difficult in recent times and racism, sexism, homophobia has been rife. Too many trolls about.

People got a right to criticize Moonlight if we choose to. Sure there were a few racist comments. But not many. I think IMDB should create a system where people have to post our real identities online. That would probably shut down a lot of the so called racist comments. ESPN did this they changed their message boards system where people had to sign in using their real name.

Not on a website they don't own.

I'm very upset with this actually. Have been using these as a place to build a film channel on youtube. Really want it to be a place of good insights as well as fun and comedy and so on. But losing this I feel will really cut into how I can market it so very disappointed.

Trying to create a channel based on interpreting, reviewing, and even giving you something to laugh about film. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance.

Or maybe it's because IMDb never moderated the baords. And it became a wild wasteland.

Now people won't be able to have actual discussions or find information about obscure movies or actors.

All I can say is that I won't be using this asuch since the active discussions on Facebook is about as easy to find, useful and fun to filter as an unsolicited root canal.

IMDb is going to become a banal waste of time.

Amazon is clueless about the usefulness of Facebook and Twitter and their own site.

The truth is like Tripadvisor, only a small proportion of users probably use the forums. I never used the forums regularly until 2009 and I have been a member since 2005.

IMDB boards needed moderating more effectively and a zero tolerance approach to hate speech.

My main reason for visiting IMDb is to get information -cast, crew, location, trivia, but there's only so much. Maybe 5 or 10 minutes worth. Then I read the message boards. The trolls suck, but I've laughed so hard at so many great posts by a lot of really funny people that I really will miss the message boards. I've also had a fair number of legitimate questions answered by really nice knowledgeable people. I'll miss that the most. I forget a troll in about 15 seconds but I'll remember a lot of thoughtful, funny people for years to come.

I rarely write on the message boards, but I don't like the idea of it going away. Like any adult with enough sense, I know to ignore the trolls and comments that are being hateful without real critique. Yeah, people who post racist or homophobic comments are *beep* but it's over the internet & nobody is making a physical threat, so why does it really matter? I like reading what other have to say about a movie whether I agree with the viewpoint or not.

Personally I think they should just ban The ones Who are abusive repeatedly
I have only made serious posts because I'm here to discuss and debate not to troll ord trigger someone
Makes me sad cause I love system they have where you have a board for each movie,actor or director
