Divorce : Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
I mean, seriously.?!
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
I think in that moment she figured out she needed to stay at her friends house for the night. That will probably be what happens as they drink wine and talk about how bad they hate their husbands. SJP doesn't strike me as one to break a window.
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
As a former practicing lawyer, I can say the husband didn't have legal standing to keep her out of the house (at least not in the state I practiced in) since it's the primary marital home. But he might have been within his rights as an owner to change the locks. She would have the right to hire a locksmith to let her in after he did so. They could go on and on like that but it would get pretty expensive. Eventually, she'd have to file a restraining order to get him to stop until they sorted out the divorce. But I think in the episode, she decided to let him cool off and went to a friend's house, even though legally she didn't have to (probably out of a sense of guilt).
I really enjoyed the pilot, although I'm not sure how much comedic mileage they'll get out of such a dark subject.

Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
Thanks, Moeswig: my thoughts exactly! It seemed unreasonable on his part, and too accepting on hers, though he HAD just exposed his knowledge of Julian to her, and she was caught on the back footI enjoyed the pilot too, though calling it a comedy is really pushing the envelope
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
Really? "suspension of disbelief" simply by the fact that someone didn't behave exactly as you would? LOL
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
because if Robert was the one cheating, no one would bat an eye if Frances kick him out and changed the locks. Women has been doing this to men for years with impunity. I think the writers want to put the shoe on the other foot.
if man said and did that, he risk going to jail
That's a real huge gap in the suspension of disbelief, for me. I'd be breaking that glass window in the door, reaching in, unlocking the door, and saying, "F you, sunshine, but this MY house. I might have screwed up, but you do NOT get to throw me to the gutter without clothes, my things, my rights to this property. MOVE."
if man said and did that, he risk going to jail
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
He obviously had the locks changed. Of Course he should have done that.
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
if a man cheats he is thrown out, looses his home and livelihood and his stuff is damaged all in the name of girl power
if a woman does itshe still wins, she can throw him out get the kids and all is wel in the world again :)

Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
I think out of guilt (as somebody already mentioned)
and maybe because the husband was in shock (they talked about the shock effect before, that a person doesnt know, that is in shock, just after it) and Robert, the husband, just found out she was cheating, he must have felt very humiliated and wanted maybe humiliate her
and yes, SJP doesnt look like someone to break the glass, not that type..

Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
That's actually very realistic situation. Could she do as you described? Of course. But what outcome do you expect of this? That your husband would just move away and say "of course, honey, you're right, I was wrong"? She humiliated him and best thing she could do is to go away and give him time to cool off. It's not about if she had any rights, it's about if she had any sense of self-preservation. If I would be on the place of this woman I definitely wouldn't push my luck with my wife. It's better to end day in hotel room than in hospital morgue.
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
She has two options, break the window or call the police. I would do the latter first. Then make a date with a lawyer to find out who is entitled to live where. She is entitled to all her personal property including gifts, half the furniture, half the house and possibly spousal support, as a bare medium. Even if she wants to let him cool down, I would not be cast out in the streets in winter living off the largess of friends. This is insane. A man should do the same thing.
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
Geez, the idiots on this board. Did you guys NOT watch the first 98% of the show? At the end, she was trying to reconcile with her husband. And you would have called the cops or broken the glass instead of letting him cool down and let the shock of knowing another guy's c0ck was stretching out her vag pass?
It's people like you guys that give women a bad rap for being selfish *beep* Most women aren't dumb bitches like you but you guys are the vocal minority that fvck it up for all the good ones. (And let's not forget that she is not a good one by any means.)
Your attitude is what's wrong with society. You would fvck around on your husband, leave him for your lover, get rejected by said lover and then, like a *beep* monkey that can't let go of one vine till you grab on to another, go BACK to the husband whom you've been fvcking around on and just asked for a divorce to plead with him to get back together and when he freaks out because he just found out what a selfish fvcking *beep* you are, your way of handling it is to break windows and call cops on him. LOL.
Holy sh!t I'm sooooooo glad I haven't ever had to date monsters like you lot.

Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
The OP is so right. Whose names are on the title deed? No way can he lock her out. Like the OP I know of no woman who would not have smashed that glass door to get inside. And he throws her bag in the garbage. What a POS!
Re: Why Can't She Go Into Her Own Home?
Thomas Haden Church is horribly miscast here. I can't believe there wasn't a more suitable actor for this part. He looks like.duhhhh.
Maybe Frances wants to stay for the kid's sake? This guy Robert was so obnoxious and stupid- looking I really had trouble believing their story. Jemaine Clement was a weird choice for the lover Julian, but I was so happy to see him it didn't matter.
I like the premise of the show, and SJP does well. Don't know where the show is going, and I hate divorces where kids are involved, but the less we see of Robert the better.
