Re: The freeway overpass scene…
Says they closed down the highway for a few hours to film it. Cannot imagine how overwhelming it must have been.
Re: The freeway overpass scene…
It was real. What made it fake was the "seemless" (careful edit) shot of people doing stunts and the prerecorded voices. Birdman and other movies with the "seemless" shots can get annoying but it was well done.
Re: The freeway overpass scene…
It's the 105 East to the 110 North interchange.

Re: The freeway overpass scene…
That's exactly what it is.
I live in LA and it looks to be possibly the upper level of the 110. Probably filmed on a Sunday morning.

Re: The freeway overpass scene…
It's the same freeway segment used in Speed.
Re: The freeway overpass scene…
I could tell it was south of Downtown LA because I could see the downtown skyscrapers in the distance and the San Gabriel Mountains behind them to the north. I know Speed was filmed on I-105 (Century Freeway), I believe before it opened to traffic.
Re: The freeway overpass scene…
A little Internet research will turn up several articles, interviews, videos, about how that sequence was achieved. And the story behind it. Essentially they closed it off once for 6 hours of rehearsal. Then was closed off again most of a weekend to film.
Re: The freeway overpass scene…
I'm really surprised a film production could get an LA freeway shut down twice for hours at a time to shoot a scene. Guess that shows how powerful Hollywood is! I wonder who the film company had to pay? Those are interstate freeways, so did they have to get permission from the federal government?
Re: The freeway overpass scene…
Had to get permission from somebody.

Re: The freeway overpass scene…
Nope, only permission from the state government is required to close roads for movies. And honestly, the more accepting the state is of film, the more likely they'll easily hand out filming permits of local areas to crews, weather big budget or independent.
Re: The freeway overpass scene…
kwb1965, IDK why you're so shocked.
As I said I Live in LA, you see film production going on all the time. It used to interest me over 25 years ago when I first moved here, now it's annoying.LOL.
For many years filming was going to Canada, seems to be reversed now. Filming here keeps jobs here.
As I said earlier most likely done on a Sunday morning. If you notice traffic is very light below.
Besides sections of freeways are closed here frequently for roadwork, really no difference.
