Sully : The interrogation / investgation bit is basically nonsense

The interrogation / investgation bit is basically nonsense

Any incident such as this would be investigated, and the pilot would need to answer questions, etc, but from what I hear the way it is depicted in this movie is that they have made it look like Sully was in 'jeopardy', ie could have been charged with misconduct, etc, when in real life he was not.

Re: The interrogation / investgation bit is basically nonsense

I remember some NTSB person said they never blamed the water landing on Sully & that the investigation was all good!

So WTF is lying??

Re: The interrogation / investgation bit is basically nonsense

While watching I thought that much must got added just for drama. As there wasn't much dramatic in the whole incident. Most went well. Too boring for a movie ^^

What I wondered most about, and in disbelief, were the real crew simulations.
Aviation doesn't exist since yesterday and neither crash investigation but in all those years - they try to sell me - they didn't consider to simulate correctly with a real crew?

Yeah sure.

In the movie the crew didn't do anything they learnt to do in case of an incident.
You don't simply return the second something happens. You try to restart the engines and check the emergency manual and contact the tower to report a problem.
The crews didn't do any of that. What the heck. Noobs. I can't believe this really happened.

I watched 15 seasons of Mayday! ;)
They can add better drama and still stick to the facts.

Lincoln Lee: I lost a partner.
Peter Bishop: I lost a universe!

Re: The interrogation / investgation bit is basically nonsense

The simulations/flight recordings in the public hearings were by far the weakest part of the film, when the writers/director probably intended them to be climax. Farcical.

Re: The interrogation / investgation bit is basically nonsense

It feels like a grumpy old man made a movie about a grumpy old man.

An extremely competent piece of flying overshadowed by a felt need to add unnecessary court room drama.

Re: The interrogation / investgation bit is basically nonsense

"The NTSB ran a series of tests using Airbus simulators in France, to see if Flight 1549 could have returned safely to their choice of LaGuardia Airport (LGA) runway 13 or 22, or Teterboro Airport (TEB) runway 19. The test pilots were fully briefed, and were able to return successfully to either airport in only eight of the fifteen attempts, although all of the four attempts to reach the nearest LaGuardia runway were successful.[96] The NTSB report noted that these test conditions were unrealistic: "The immediate turn made by the pilots during the simulations did not reflect or account for real-world considerations". One further simulation was conducted with the pilot delayed by 35 seconds: He crashed trying to return to LGA runway 22."

It didn't happen like in the movie, but there was some time when sim guys thought they could have made it back, then they delayed it for 35 sec, like in the movie and they failed.

Re: The interrogation / investgation bit is basically nonsense

I found the film focused too much on the investigation which I found mainly boring apart from the end.

It would of been nice to find out a bit more about some of the crew including Sully and the passengers.

Re: The interrogation / investgation bit is basically nonsense

The passengers??? Who cares..they were basically cattle and had nothing to do with what happened other than being bodies on a plane..you could switch them out with 155 different people over and over again and none of their backgrounds would matter to the story.
