KFC
Re: what happened to the birds?
LOL
Re: what happened to the birds?
Don't know about you, but I'm not sure there would be much left of our feathered friends once they've flown into a jet engine turbine travelling at 400 mph
Re: what happened to the birds?
I'm surprisee to hear that, after all, the film preaches throughout that no lives were lost. Also those simulations at the were really stupid, two stiffs sitting in the cockpit reading a script with no passion. They started by saying "birds" in a really lame TV movie way. They may have been good pilots but awful actors!
Re: what happened to the birds?
When the plane is accelerating, at lets say 300kph, the reaction time is quite literally "Birds !.. BANG !".
How else would you want them to act ?
"Oh look at those birds lets slow the engine a bit, turn here and avoid them !"

Re: what happened to the birds?
They were Canadian Geese. They simply flew to Canada and used Medicare to help sort themselves out. Doubt they ever flew over New York again. Probably took the Boston route.
Re: what happened to the birds?
Haha. Thanks for the laugh.
Re: what happened to the birds?
Birds fly into engines all the time, that's why they keep birds of prey at airports but only rarely does a flock like that bring down a plane. I work for an air passenger carrier and I've seen many flights delayed or cancelled because of birds flying into engines or getting stuck in the turbines. The cost to repair that can fetch a good 60 grand (no kidding!)
Re: what happened to the birds?
Well, there were a lot of roasted duck served on other flights of that airline.
Re: what happened to the birds?
Some of them survived. Who do you think *beep* on you and your car?
Re: what happened to the birds?
1. Are birds blind to fly right into a huge moving thing like a plane? Does this really often happens in real life?
2. What are the engines made of, paper? To be breakable by a single bird that weighs no more than 0.5KG.

Re: what happened to the birds?
1. As mentioned above, it happens. At that speed, the birds would have no idea what's approaching nor have any time to react.
2. Actually, a canada male goose can weight up to 6.5kg.

Yes. Airports spend considerable resources to try and keep birds from runways and / or the vicinity.
2. What are the engines made of, paper? To be breakable by a single bird that weighs no more than 0.5KG.
Titanium generally (Fan blades).
A bird of several kilos, hitting a plane doing 300kph, is likely to be equivalent of a 100KG bag from 20 meters in height, on to your head. Is your head made of paper ?
But anyway I digress, The bird is 'Ingested', where it can get stuck, causing the rotary action of the engine to become disrupted, causing. Damage.
But in this case, it was a flock he hit (Probably migratory), causing MULTIPLE ingestions, in MULTIPLE engines (Both engines).
So next time you fly, and look out the window to see a flock of birds, PRAY, Pray you have Sully flying the plane.
Re: what happened to the birds?
The Canadian geese became shredded Tweet !
Re: what happened to the birds?
Birds are sliced, diced and cooked (Hence the smell of roast chicken during a Bird Strike).
The problem, the RPM of the engines, the pieces of bird, also cause damage to the engines.

Re: what happened to the birds?
We flew, we saw, they died. hahaha
Re: what happened to the birds?
They were Canadian geese so they likely went to Tim Horton's & then a hockey game, eh?
Re: what happened to the birds?
PETA launched an inquiry about that.
Re: what happened to the birds?
The ones who weren't killed flew south for the winter.
