Indian Cinema : OT: Jallikattu

OT: Jallikattu

Is it a very big deal in TN? people are attacking me on quora cause I said that they should not doubt the intentions of the Supreme Court judges.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

ya its a big deal. Its part of Tamil culture but many claim its animal abuse. i think its time to ditch these acts and get with the times but tradition is tradition

Couldn't agree more with him. Or we should define acceptable level of cruelty towards animals.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

Man, would you call Jallikattu a breeding science?

Kapil Routray: The Bengali Hindus will pay for their sins.:)

Re: OT: Jallikattu

Well. No. But a hard core non vegetarian friend of mine was talking against animal cruelty in Jallikattu. To me, that doesn't make sense.

Breeding science or no, animals are killed for fodder. If we have to stop a practice because of perceived elements of animal cruelty, surely, we need to stop the actual killing first.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

It's not that ridiculous. There are plenty of non vegetarians that can't stand the sight of blood, and can't bear to watch the necks of chickens being cut, for example.

So, it's perfectly natural for them to want to stop cruelty to animals in cases where the cruelty does not lead to eating.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

The question is not what one section can't or can bear. Question is or should be about what is definition of animal cruelty. And what is or should be considered violation of animal rights.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

True, but it's always a step by step process.

Cruelty for sport, for obvious reasons, is a much easier target than cruelty for food. To ask everything to stop at once is naive, if not disingenuous.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

N what about plants rights? Don't they hav life? Stop biryani then stop furnitures, stop vegetarian dishes too.

Bloody hypocrites.

So kalyan dog is angry after i succeeded in deleting his n his boyfriend's (speceman) account.

Kalyan u look like a troll with this new id of only 6 months old.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

Angry Tamils on quora told me it's a breeding science. Maybe it is indeed an incentive for breeding bulls.

They also said that without jallikattu, young bulls will be promptly sent to the slaughter house. Then I recounted how old bulls in West Bengal led a life better than many poor human beings with plentiful food from vendors and respect and awe.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

Lol. there could an element of truth in it. To me, one will always go around in circles in a debate of this nature. It really comes down to what is the perceived definition of animal cruelty.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

Wonderful. The great man thinks that vegetable biryani is an abomination not even worth naming.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

Maybe even Kamal sir subconsciously acknowledges the fact that veg Biryani is just veg Pulao in another name.

But neither he nor I want to piss you off this early in the day.

Peace.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

There was some controversy regarding elephants at Thrissur pooram and having elephants in functions in general. Didn't really follow that news so don't know what became of it.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

Yeah. Tamils on quora were angry about Malayalis treating elephants badly and getting away with it.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

just shoot or stun the animal.

its more humane than chopping its head off. the animal is obviously tense. it knows what's coming.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

lol this thing is such a mishmash with animal activists, meat eaters and cow worshippers all at odds.

Btw, there has been a huge resurgence in popularity of the local breeds in Kerala. The smaller cows are easier to care for and they produce a fair amount of milk and dung. Also, have more personality than the holsteins.

Re: OT: Jallikattu

What do you make of Bull Fighting then?
I personally eat anything but killing for sport is wrong. Likewise Trophy Hunting. But maybe because deep down I am a raging misanthrope and find animals far simpler and better to get along with.
