Resident Evil: The Final Chapter : Is this really the "Retribution" script?

Is this really the "Retribution" script?

Re-posting this here because this board is busier:

Late to the party, I know, but I'd never bothered to look for the original script for "Retribution" until now, despite knowing (as usual) stuff was cut and altered in the final cut.

I find myself a little sceptical sometimes in case fans have created elaborate fakes that simply look real (they've done crazier things!), but Google provided this as the first result:

Thanks in advance.

Re: Is this really the "Retribution" script?

Yes.

Re: Is this really the "Retribution" script?

Yes it is. I was so dissapointed after reading it. Its worse than released movie.

Re: Is this really the "Retribution" script?

pawlo is there any differences or did they had more scenes for Leon or Jill? I wanna know how playing was the knife scene Leon had, I wonder if that scene was move to Final Chapter in the moment Alice is figthing Isaacs at the tank.

-"I'm good but not THAT good" Jill Valentine

Re: Is this really the "Retribution" script?

The single biggest difference is that there's no Red Queen. She's not in this script at all.

As for Leon and Jill not really? There's the control room scene, but that's in the deleted scenes anyway. I don't recall reading the knife fight in this script, but to honest I was skimming by that point so little is different.

If you want to check, just click and read it yourself.

Re:Possibly FAKE SCRIPT!

Can't be accurate. This script contains dialogue from the novel including the extra dialogue where Wesker in the novel says he was a clone in afterlife and that this is the real him. And its written in RED!. WTF! I'm sure people read the original draft and that line wasn't in it. What's going on?

"Fear What You Will Become And Become What You Fear"

Re:Possibly FAKE SCRIPT!

It's hard to say. The author of the novel said he based his book on an early draft of the script.

I'm curious about the sections that say "OMITTED."

Re:Possibly FAKE SCRIPT!

Holy s..t, they actually set up the whole Alice being a clone thing.

After Alice kills the clone zombie rain Ada explains the situation and Alice realises the Umbrella Strike Team in the Hive in RE1 were all Clones. I don't remember reading that in the novel or it being in the deleted scene. In other words this would have actually helped set this twist at the end of the TFC up if that dialogue had been included in the film. WTF!!! These films need EXTENDED CUTS at once.

EDIT:

As Kaplan crosses to a computer terminal, he passes the MEDIC - the one that was beheaded by the lasers in RESIDENT EVIL 1 - the gangs all here. Shock registers with the franchise fans as they finally realize that behind the anonymous faceplate of every Umbrella Trooper in the last 3 sequels - was actually someone they knew.

I wonder why they didn't get the original actors back for this. I wonder now if Carlos was a clone in Apocalypse and Extinction too as well if Anderson's intention here was explain that all the Umbrella Troops are clones.

"Fear What You Will Become And Become What You Fear"

Re:Possibly FAKE SCRIPT!

.that dialogue is almost word for word the same in the final film. It's just all after they find the Alice clone.

Lol, Retribution still sets up in flashing neon letters that Alice is just a clone.

Re:Possibly FAKE SCRIPT!

It's not fake. See where it's hosted? Wikileaks. It's from the gigantic Sony hack and leak, that leaked far more important things (read: personal, private, emails) than just old movie scripts.

It's also not something new.

Re:Possibly FAKE SCRIPT!

This script is stupidity done and not 100% legit.

The Wesker Clone dialogue is repeated again word for word in the oval office scene. It seems someone just took the basic draft and then filled it in with the deleted stuff or an attempt at it.

And a lot of different things too. Ada is not a hostage. Barry dies a different. No Carlos. No Axemen fight. No Red Queen. I like that the Red Queen wasn't originally planned to be brought back. Her being the villain in the film and then suddenly reverting to her original form from RE1 in terms of wanting to protect the world was stupidly done. Plus I'm pretty sure there was a version of the script where Barry actually discussed his backstory. Film was much better lol.

And it ends with this *beep*

It is an awesome image, promising an epic battle to come.

YEAH F..KING RIGHT!!! HAHAHAHAHA

And it ends with the title of the next film. RE: Revelations. What a load of bullocks.

"Fear What You Will Become And Become What You Fear"

Re:Possibly FAKE SCRIPT!

According to Milla's tweet Red Queen was planned for RE6. You know they always planned to go full circle and return where it all started. For some reason Paul decided to include Red Queen in Retribution.

In released movie there is still revelation that Umbrella soldiers are clones. There is also a hint that Alice can be a clone as well.

The script is much closer to novel. But i think that released movie is better.

The title for RE6 was Resident Evil Revelation. There was a plan to filming 5 and 6 back-to-back so basic story was already written.

Re:Possibly FAKE SCRIPT!

Yes, Anderson has known that RE6 was going to return to the Hive for a long time and he brought back Red Queen, One and Rain in RE5, to sort of signal "the beginning of the end", with the intention that Alice would have to go to the Hive in the final film and confront the Red Queen there.

This is what he said 3 months after RE5, back in 2012: http://movieweb.com/exclusive-paul-w-s-anderson-confirms-resident-evil-6-will-end-the-franchise/

"I couldn't possible tell you that. Definitely, the destruction and loss of the world. I can't tell you if it's the loss of the entire world. In terms of returning characters and themes, I do see this movie coming full circle. And circling back to the original characters and themes that were featured in the very first film. That's why you saw the return of the Red Queen, and Michelle Rodriguez's character. It is preparing you for a return to the hive, and a return to the scene of the first film."

"The scene of the first film" is obviously the laser room since it's the most iconic scene in the entire series, and he already used it in RE3's version of the Hive.

"There are a few of them, yes. I felt that, with this movie, there was a limit to what we could do. We were bringing back Colin Salmon, we were bringing back Michelle Rodriguez. There were a lot of returning characters. We were bringing back Sienna Guillory. I didn't want to overwhelm the movie with this endless parade of returning characters. But there are a lot of characters and themes in the franchise that I would like to return to. I think that is going to be one of the fun things. We've taken the audience on this epic journey, and then ultimately realizing that the journey comes back to the very beginning. Hopefully it makes them reexamine everything they have seen in the franchise. I think the final movie will not only be spectacular, but it will also make you want to go back and watch all of those blu-rays and DVDs again. And watch them through a different lens."

We wouldn't hear again that RE6 was going to return to the Hive until years later, and several people didn't believe it because they were shooting in Cape Town of all places.

But following Jovovich's pregnancy, Anderson did rewrites that he says improved the movie's script a lot than what they were going to shoot originally. He specifically says that several of the previous movies were very thin on story (*cough* RE4 & RE5 *cough*), they were non-stop action movies. Instead, with the rewrites, he made everything narrative based. So I guess the original RE6 would be Alice kicking ass in the Hive against Red Queen (and probably the stupid, really angry but otherwise completely devoid of any personality RE5 Red Queen, rather than what we got in the final film), and perhaps with no extensive backstories regarding Alicia, Red Queen and so on?

This script in particular has been fantastic because I got my wife (Milla Jovovich) pregnant, and it allowed me another nine months to work on the screenplay. [laughs] I feel like Ive put more work in this screenplay, I think Id have to go back to the first Resident Evil to feel a similar way.

Its a return to the hive and a return to the very first film. What you discover is there are things that Milla was trying to do in the first movie that she thought she succeeded in and she actually didnt. So you get back to the first film, the location of the first film, and she tries to put things right and do what she should have done right at the very beginning. And we also, in a way, tell the story of what the Umbrella corporation has really been doing, what the truth behind the T-virus is, what the truth behind some of the characters are. So its really revealing a lot, I mean, some of the movies have been deliberately designed as very simple run and gun, almost like chase movies. Theres been a lot of action, a lot of horror, this is more kind ofwell, its still got a lot of action in it, and horror, but its more narrative based. Theres more story in it than any of the other movies. Quite a complex story that I think the fans will enjoy. Things that will make you want to go back and see the first movie again, and maybe watch the whole franchise again. And thats why Im glad I got the extra nine months to work on it. I think the screenplay is a lot better than the version we would have shot nine months ago.

I wish he would had written the action in all the previous films as "narrative based", rather than what we got, especially with RE4 and RE5 which can be removed from the timeline with little consequence (save for Alice losing her powers at the beginning of RE4, and Wesker's betrayal at the end of RE5).

I also think that in general the writing improved a lot from the previous films. I mean "The trinity of bitches, united in their hatred." and "You don't need help, Wesker. You're dying. Just get on with it.", especially as brought to life by Glenn and Jovovich are quite good lines.

Re: Is this really the "Retribution" script?

I briefly read the first 5 pages. A lot of it was slightly changed. The interrogation scene was WAY better in the film portrayed by Jill Valentine vs. three Umbrella soldiers. According to that leak, it was supposed to be of 3 days. But I guess in the movie you have no way of knowing how long those "SCREECH" sounds were spread out. Plus there was a bed in that room, not in the movie!

Re: Is this really the "Retribution" script?

Also:

A breathtaking piece of choreography that will have the audience cheering. For the first time in the franchise, Alice fights with a blade and gun combined.

Paul Anderson is so full of himself. I mean I enjoyed that fight sequence, one of my favorites from the entire franchise, but really now?

Re: Is this really the "Retribution" script?

That's how he writes in his scripts. I gotta say it's.. something. Never seen anything like it before, cheering your own scripts/films.
