The Magnificent Seven : Were they passing joints in the movie?

Were they smoking pot? Or was it tobacco? Looked like we are supposed to believe that they were passing a joint the way they held it and inhaled and then passed it. Not common at all in the west.

I thought the same based on how they passed it, but cigarettes were all rolled just like that during those times, so, I doubt it was anything but tobacco.

The way they passed the hand-rolled cigarettes was meant to modernize the action and to make it more contemporary by either suggesting outright that it was pot, or making it seem like they were passing the smokable weed (in this case tobacco) as is is done by the younger generation today.

Billy is passing a cigarette because Goodnight is losing his control due to his PTSD. I have lit and passed many a cigarette to someone who needs to calm down. Others have done the same for me. Tobacco raises your heart rate, but also calms you down.

When you're fired up, a cigarette makes everything better for 5 minutes and you can get on top of your demons.
