Hacksaw Ridge : The first battle scene was shocking
Re: The first battle scene was shocking
Totally agree. The first battle was violent and reinforces any anti-war sentiments you may have
Re: The first battle scene was shocking
Did you notice there was zero music in the first battle?
Re: The first battle scene was shocking
There are many older folks watching this, and I'm afraid they will have a heart attack during some of the jump scenes.
The lady by us the other day needed a warning; her popcorn and drink went flying lol.
Nothing cheesy at all. What happened to sweet & lovely. Now it's considered cheesy? NOPE. This world is falling to sh!t.

Cheap and obvious CG blood is more annoying than shocking, to me. It looked like something out of some japanese exploitation film from the early 2000's. Cartoonish.

Nice to see a 12 year old girl showing interest in a WWII film.

Re: The first battle scene was shocking
The fighting, although fierce and grouse, is way overdone.
It may feel like this when you are there, but in reality, it's nothing near this unrealistic storm of steel and flames.
It was on the verge of becoming comical.
"We were heroes" and the all-American "Shaving Ryan's privates" is most likely much more realistic when it comes to this.

From that point on it was just pure mayhem.
Gibson made a brilliant contrast between the two acts. The one back in his hometwon was overromantacized and cheesy.
As soon as Desmond arrives in Japan we get a completely different picture which creates this very abrupt change of tone and makes it even more shocking to the viewer.
Mel Gibson knocked it out of the park with his battle scenes. They are some for the ages.
