1. Mazur is allowed to bring his AUNT into his undercover work, on a case dealing with the Medellin cartel
2. Mazur gets a bloody coffin at his actual house, and assumes it is from Escobar. That would mean that Mazur's cover has been blown, and that he and his family are in immediate jeopardy. So what does he do? Continue the operation as if nothing has happened.
3.Mazur's cover is that he's an Italian mob guy. Italian mob guys are not going to allow themselves to be tied up, blindfolded and driven someplace just to "do business".
4. Alcaino and his wife meet Mazur and his wife, and are suddenly the best of friends after one visit? This from a guy who says how important "trust" is?
5. Mazur almost gets his head blown off at the Santaria shrine, but he lucked out (we are not told why), and he continues his undercover op as if that didn't happen, filled with as much swagger as at first. He spends the rest of the film trying to shake the hand of the guy who was there who saw him on his knees. What?
6. Ospina sees the open briefcase of the recording equipment, but only whispers to Mazur that he "broke his heart". Instead of this blowing Mazur's cover, resulting in Mazur's quick death, it is Ospina who gets whacked in the nightclub, because he was "annoying".
7. Mazur slowly figures out one of the men he's dealing with is Escobar, as if Escobar was some mysterious figure. In fact, Escobar's image was ubiquitous, he ran for office in Colombia, and certainly every operative would know exactly what he looked like. Worse, the guy playing Escobar looked nothing like Pablo.
8. Alcaino tells Mazur he should have taken Seal's ring when he had the chance, which means that Alcaino knew that the informant was hanging out with Mazur. But again, Mazur's cover is not blown.
9. The big bust happens at the wedding. Why? Was that the purpose of the weddingto gather Alcaino and the rest in one room to arrest them? Unless they brought kilos of coke to the wedding, the could have been quietly arrested at any time. It was just gratuitous sensationalism to have the big bust happen at the wedding, just so the betrayed Alcaino can stare at Mazur.
I hope Mazur's book does not include these implausibilities, otherwise I would have to seriously question the truth of his story.
