Westworld : Very slow and at times boring
Re: Very slow and at times boring
You're out of your mind.
Re: Very slow and at times boring
Apart from the basic premisea Wild West-themed amusement park populated by androidsthe HBO show and the 1973 movie have very little in common. They don't really tell the same story, I'm not even sure they're in the same genre. The movie was a quick, disposable action thriller about sophisticated but basically mindless machines that malfunction. It was told entirely from the human perspective and never suggested the androids were sentient or conscious.
The show flips the premise around by depicting the hosts as intelligent, thinking, feeling beings who are in many ways the true victims of the story, while the humans are the monsters. It explores the topic of AI to a degree that the movie never even attempted to do, and it's partly a meditation on what makes humans human. It also includes a certain underlying level of meta commentary about the entertainment industry.
All this would have been difficult to cover in a single 1.5-hour movie. Despite its being technically an adaptation of the 1973 film, I think the show is in some ways more a spiritual successor to Blade Runner. Thematically, it starts from where that movie left off.
I'm not begrudging you for enjoying the original Westworld film and finding the show boring; that's a matter of taste. I'm simply pointing out that the two are very different works and aren't even trying to do the same thing, so you can't really compare one against the other in more than a superficial way.

Re: Very slow and at times boring
I sat through all of them, knowing what it was about and what they were discussing and all, but it didn't seem to "move". All 10 episodes should have been cut into a 2 hour movie, and then it might be good. except it never finished into anything. And I'm not bothering with season 2 since it will be another 2 hour movie stretched out to 10 hours. Not my bag.
What I am saying is, I understood all of it fine, but to me, it was often slow and boring.
Not much SCI-FI-ness, not much conclusions, just on and on to no where.

Re: Very slow and at times boring
Tbh I have read the s2 is supposed to be very intense compared with s1. And s1 has been basically called a prequel so that's why it's a bit slow
Re: Very slow and at times boring
And at times even more boring than that.
Re: Very slow and at times boring
Hey laro, have you seen Dr Strange? Mad Mikkelsen was unreal!

I call it the Millennial Effect.
Millennials have short attention spans and cannot appreciate something that is meticulously crafted.
You have my pity. You have really missed out on all that WW has to offer.

Re: Very slow and at times boring
You mean this show is very slow, and at times, somewhat exciting. When it's not exciting, it's very boring, which is most the time. Just wanted to clarify.
Re: Very slow and at times boring
You can call it a lot of things, but boring never. The storylines, Easter eggs, fantastic character development, Felix and Sylvester the Cat. MIB the only one who seems to get his money's worth out of his vacation. But he never takes the hint, the Maze is not meant for you.
Re: Very slow and at times boring
by very boring I'm going to have to assume you just didn't understand what was going on, and didn't even know you didn't know.

I prefer the movie over the show. The show just takes way too long to tell the story. Hopefully it picks up next season, I am still giving it a chance after the finale. Though I think they could've started the show with the finale.
